As Matt continues his Bikes for Burundi challenge, he's been meeting some truly inspiring people along the way.
One of them is Charles Nkazamyampi, a former Olympic athlete from Burundi whose life was turned upside down by civil war and the loss of his parents. Despite experiencing unimaginable tragedy, Charles found a path away from revenge and now dedicates his life to helping young people build positive futures through sport, community and strong values.
Matt also met Ephraim, who survived torture during regional conflict and later chose forgiveness over bitterness. Today, he works with children and young people, encouraging them to make positive choices and become a force for good in their communities.
The trip has also included a visit to Kibuye Hope Hospital, where a team of just four expatriate staff and more than 200 Burundian healthcare professionals provide life-changing care to thousands of patients every year. The hospital not only delivers vital medical services but also trains the next generation of doctors who will serve communities across Burundi.
Hearing these stories and seeing this work firsthand has given Matt a deeper understanding of the challenges people face, as well as the incredible resilience, compassion and hope that exists throughout the country.
