We're delighted to welcome Phil to the RSM Driver Training instructor team.
Phil is an experienced Class 1 driver who originally gained his own licence through RSM. Like a number of our longest serving instructors, he always knew that one day he wanted to help others achieve their HGV licences and start new careers of their own.
Becoming an instructor isn't simply a case of being a good driver. The journey involves five theory test papers, extensive study and revision, a driving ability assessment with a very strict pass standard, instructional training covering all aspects of teaching, and a final assessment before registration can be achieved.
The best instructors combine knowledge with patience, calmness and the ability to adapt their approach to suit different people. Every candidate learns differently, and being able to recognise that is what separates a good instructor from a great one.
Having recently completed his instructor training, mentoring and job shadowing, Phil has already made an incredible start. His very first student, Scarlett went on to pass her test and achieved something many drivers never do... a completely fault free drive with zero driving faults recorded by the examiner. 👏
That's a fantastic achievement for Scarlett and a brilliant start to Phil's instructing career.
