This Citroën Relay came into OP HQ with a very poorly EGR cooler .. which had clearly decided it fancied early retirement

Unfortunately for it, Team OP had other plans 🔧

Bonnet up, tools out and a replacement ready for its moment .. another job keeping the team busy and the bossman’s coffee going cold

It’s easy to forget how much we rely on our vans until they decide they’re having a day off without asking permission

A full service… with an extra dusting of OP magic 🧡🔧

This morning’s Transit belongs to a valued returning customer, and it’s always lovely having familiar faces back at OP HQ

Fresh filters, a full service and a little attention to the bits that could easily get overlooked… because the little details are everything to us 👌

Engine bay cleaned up and the collection of leaves hoovered out — apparently we’re doing autumn clearances now too 🤣🍂 There’s a video on our story if watching Team OP evict leaves is your kind of Saturday entertainment!

You might not lift the bonnet to admire it every morning, but we still want to hand it back knowing we’ve given it that extra bit of care (no extra charge or hidden costs of course)

Morning from OP HQ 🧡 Big things are coming ..

Believe it or not, it’s not ALL about our amazingly cool team and fixing vehicles around here… although the bossman might disagree

There’s plenty happening behind the scenes, and yesterday was all about bringing a few of Mrs OP’s plans to life. Someone’s actually encouraging her now… dangerous

An amazing meeting with Double H Creative as always a pleasure to help turn what’s in her head into how OP HQ looks. Good luck to them trying to keep up 🧡

We also chatted with Bel's Bakes about goodies for our upcoming customer lounge. Team OP took the taste testing VERY seriously… funny how everyone’s available when brownies are involved

Then eco coffee for those all-important hot drinks. You already know the bossman wasn’t going to let that bit get overlooked ☕

And a lovely gift from Cowleaze Fresh Cut Flowers — a homegrown pumpkin and an OP-orange flower display! Such a thoughtful treat, thank you 🧡 Now we need some OP-themed pumpkin carving ideas… preferably within Mrs OP’s actual abilities please 🎃

We’re Optimum Performance — a family-run workshop in Shapwick, near Wimborne, with proper mechanics, honest advice and a Bossman who does love a challenge

Whether you know your engine inside out or your best description is “it makes a sort of clunky thing when I go round the bend” — you’re welcome here. We might ask you to recreate the noise, though. Purely for diagnostic purposes, obviously 🤣

You’ve seen the orange. You’ve seen the logo. You’ve probably heard us mention the Bossman once or twice… 😂🧡

But we want you to get to know what stands behind it all

Because OP takes up a fairly ridiculous amount of our family’s life

Conversations at home somehow become workshop meetings. “Just popping back to the unit” needs its own official definition. And apparently, finishing a full day’s work is the ideal time to start painting something else 😂

We care about how this place looks. How it runs. How you feel when you walk through the door—and whether you understand what’s happening with your vehicle when you leave

We want you to feel comfortable asking the question. Even if your best description of the fault is “it makes a noise like this…” followed by something none of us can ever unhear 🤣🔧

Behind all the orange is a family putting a lot of themselves into building something they’re proud to put their name to

The jacking point had left the chat. Team OP entered it 😂🔧

This Renault Trafic came in for its MOT, with the repair work including new shocks all round and a jacking point that was looking more fresh air than metal 🫣

And that shiny replacement beside the rusty original? Made right here, in-house. Measured, cut and shaped by Team OP 💪

Servicing, suspension, welding, fabrication… a little reminder of the range of work we get stuck into at OP HQ. Every job gets the care, whether it’s routine maintenance or something that needs a bit more head-scratching and metal-making

We’re starting to wonder if there’s anything Team OP can’t do… although the bossman probably wishes we’d stop saying that before someone turns up with a submarine 😂👀

Local businesses… what have you got? 👀🧡

We’re finishing off our reception and waiting area at OP HQ, and we’d love to make a little room for other local businesses while we’re at it.

We’re thinking local bakes, drinks, car-care products, a bit of OP merch… things customers can browse, enjoy or pick up while they’re with us. Because apparently fixing the car wasn’t enough — now Mrs OP wants snacks and a shopping corner 😂🤦‍♀️

Nothing’s set in stone yet. We’d love to hear from local makers, bakers and suppliers who fancy having a chat about what could work. Got something we haven’t thought of? Even better!

Nothing says professional respect quite like recommending someone and immediately asking to remain anonymous 🤣

To the garages who send work our way, the recovery companies who know where to drop it, and the garages who follow along, like our posts and support what we do — thank you. Even if you’d rather push a car uphill than give bossman a compliment to his face 😂

And to our customers dropping our name in group chats, tagging us in recommendation posts and telling their mates “I know a bloke”…

We’re very glad he’s your bloke. Even if he thinks coffee is a food group and another mug counts as lunch 🤣☕

Jokes aside, there’s our family behind OP. It’s bossman not locking up until 10pm, and team OP getting stuck into cleaning, painting and making the workshop somewhere we’re proud to welcome you.

Your support makes those long days and paint-covered evenings feel worth it. When you recommend us, you’re trusting us to look after someone you’ve sent our way — and that means a lot. We don’t take it lightly 🧡

Well… their first mistake was getting their wetbelt “done” elsewhere 👀😂

And yes, we’re putting “done” in quotation marks for a reason.

This Transit Custom 2.0 came to us as a complete non-runner and had to be recovered into OP HQ after suffering a major failure shortly after having its wetbelt replaced elsewhere.

And this wasn’t an old wetbelt simply reaching the end of its life!
The failure traced back to the previous wetbelt fitting!!

The idler gear bolt had sheared, allowing components to move out of position, throwing the engine timing out and causing damage throughout the engine.

Normal-person translation?

Lots of expensive metal things started moving and hitting things they absolutely shouldn’t 😬💸

At this point, the easy answer would have been:
“You need another engine.”

Bossman, obviously:
“…orrrrrrrr we could fix it.” 😂🔧

And down the rabbit hole he went.

Once stripped down, this wasn’t just a case of fitting another belt and sending it on its way.

The bossman had to:
🔧 Replace the damaged oil pump pulleys
🔧 Replace the timing belt pulley
🔧 Replace the fuel pump pulley
🔧 Completely reset the engine timing
🔧 Rectify and re-seat the valves affected by the timing failure
🔧 Remove, inspect, clean and refit the oil pump
🔧 Clear the oil galleries throughout the engine
🔧 Clear and check the vacuum pump
🔧 Fit new genuine belts
🔧 Replace the failed hardware with the correct bolts

Basically…
he had to undo the damage caused by the first wetbelt job.

And after all of that?

THE ENGINE WAS SAVED 🪄🔧

A Transit that arrived with us on a recovery truck, completely unable to run, and could very easily have ended up needing a replacement engine with anyone other than our very own wizard …

left OP under its own steam and back on the road. 😏🧡🖤

This is exactly why we keep banging on about wetbelts.

A wetbelt replacement isn’t simply:

old belt off → new belt on

The correct parts matter.
The correct bolts matter.
The fitting procedure matters.
The timing matters.
And most importantly…
WHO FITS IT MATTERS.

So maybe the question shouldn’t only be:

“How much to do my wetbelt?”

Maybe it should also be:

“Do they actually know how to do my wetbelt?” 👀😂

Because getting it “done” elsewhere can become very expensive when it then has to be done again…

Another non-runner saved.
Another problem solved.
