That sound. You know the one.

The scrape of a bumper on a car park pillar. The crunch of a door against a gatepost. The moment you realise someone’s reversed into you and driven off.

And then the feeling in your stomach.

Because this isn’t just a car. It’s the one you wash on a Sunday morning. The one you park at the far end of the supermarket car park, away from everyone else. The one you still glance back at when you walk away from it.

And now every time you walk up to it, your eyes go straight to that mark. You can’t unsee it.

If you’re anything like our customers, it’s not just the damage that gets to you. It’s everything that comes with it:

😩 Will it ever look right again?
😩 Will someone bodge it and it’ll look worse in six months?
😩 Has it knocked the value right down?
😩 How long am I going to be without it?

It’s a horrible feeling, and it’s completely normal to feel gutted. You care about your car. That’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

The good news? A mark like that doesn’t have to be permanent. Done properly, a repair can leave your car looking like the day you fell in love with it, with no trace it was ever damaged.

If it’s been bugging you, you’re welcome to pop in for a chat. No pressure, no hard sell. Just honest advice from a family business that’s been doing this in Witham since 1987.

In 2008, I walked out of my dad’s body shop. On purpose.
Dad started Spraymaster in 1987. He wanted a better life by working for himself, and he built this place up from the ground.
I left school in 2005 and went straight into an apprenticeship here. I worked my way up and got my qualifications. Then, three years in, I left.
Not because I’d fallen out with anyone. I wanted to build my own name. I wanted my own portfolio, and I wanted to see how other garages did things.
So for six years I worked in other body shops. I picked up the good habits and took note of the bad ones.
In 2014 I came back, and that’s the moment I’m proudest of. I came back knowing the best, quickest and safest way to do things. That made the business stronger and helped it grow.
When Dad retired in 2021, I took over full time.
Today it's me and Harvey on the workshop floor. We paint, strip, repair and polish all day, and I do all the admin. A lot of our customers I know by first name. They ask after my parents and my kids, and I ask after their families.

Same family business. Same Witham workshop. Same belief Dad started with: do it properly, or don't do it at all.

5 ways to make sure your car repair is actually done properly 🔧
A scuff or dent is annoying enough. Paying for a repair that looks tired six months later is worse. Here’s what to check before you hand over your keys:
1. Ask if it’ll be painted in a spray booth oven
Paint baked in a proper booth cures harder and lasts longer. Painted in the open air, dust and damp get in, and it shows.
2. Ask “repair or replace?” and why
A good body shop will tell you honestly. Plenty of cracked bumpers can be plastic welded and saved, with no need for a new part at a new-part price.
3. Ask what paint system they use
Quality paint, matched properly, is the difference between invisible and “you can tell that’s been done.”
4. Be wary of the quick, cheap fix
A rushed job can look fine on the day. The real test is how it looks in a year, or five.
5. Know you can choose your repairer
If the accident wasn’t your fault, you can choose who repairs your car. Pick someone who works for you, not for the insurer’s bottom line.
And no, a properly repaired car isn’t “devalued.” Done right, nobody should ever be able to tell. 👌
We’ve been doing it properly in Witham since 1987, as a family-run business that still knows most of our customers by name.
💬 Which of these did you not know? Drop a comment, and save this for the next time someone backs into you in the Tesco car park 😅

“It’s only a few scratches… do I really need to pay for a proper repair?” 🤔

Honestly? I completely get it.

Nobody plans to spend money on their car. It’s annoying, it’s unexpected, and when it’s “only a few scratches and dents” the cheapest quote looks very tempting.

But here’s what you don’t see with a cheap job…

This Fiesta came in with scratches and a few dents down the side. We didn’t just dab some paint on and hope for the best. We repaired the panels, got it into primer, prepped and masked it properly, and painted it in our spray booth oven.

That’s the bit that matters. A rushed repair can look OK on the day you collect it. A few months later the colour is off, the edges are lifting, or the filler is showing through, and then you’re paying twice.

A proper repair still looks right in six months, a year, even five years.

So when you’re comparing prices, you’re not just paying for paint. You’re paying for:
✅ Damage repaired properly, not bodged
✅ Paint cured in a proper booth oven
✅ A colour match where you can’t see where the damage was
✅ A family business that’s been doing it right in Witham since 1987

And if the price is still worrying you, just ask. I’ll talk you through exactly what’s needed and why. No pressure and no hard sell. If it’ll polish out in five minutes, I’ll tell you.

Your car deserves to be done properly. 🚗✨

At Spraymaster, we’re plastic welding specialists. Using a nitrogen plastic welder, we fuse the crack back together from the inside, so the repair is strong and properly bonded. It isn’t filled over and hoped for the best. Then it’s prepped and painted in our spray booth oven to match the rest of your car.
What you get back:
✅ Your original bumper, repaired properly
✅ Paintwork you can’t tell apart from the rest of the car
✅ A repair that still looks spot on in a year, and in five
If it can be saved, we’ll save it. If it genuinely needs replacing, we’ll tell you straight. No pressure, no bodge jobs, just honest advice from a family-run body shop that’s been doing it right in Witham since 1987.
📩 Message “INFO” and we’ll tell you whether your bumper can be repaired.

Small change, big difference. 🔥

This Fiesta ST came in for a finishing touch on the rear end, so we painted and fitted a new lower bumper diffuser.

It’s prepped and painted properly in our spray booth oven, then fitted so it sits tight and lines up perfectly with the bumper. It looks like it came out of the factory that way, and it’ll still look this good years from now.

If your car is your pride and joy, the little details matter. We treat every job, big or small, like it’s our own car.

Got a styling upgrade or a part that needs painting and fitting? 📩 Message “INFO” and we’ll talk you through it.

That sinking feeling. You know the one.

You’ve reversed out the same driveway a thousand times. Today the gatepost moved. 😬

Or you came back to the car park to find a fresh dent in the door and no note under the wiper.

If you’re someone who keeps your car immaculate, washes it on a Sunday and notices every swirl mark, it hits harder than people understand. It isn’t “just a scratch.” It’s your pride and joy, and now every time you walk up to it, your eyes go straight to that spot.

Then the worries pile in.
Will it ever look right again?
Will someone bodge it and it’ll look rough in six months?
Will it knock the value off?
How long will I be without it?
And if insurance is involved… who’s actually on my side?

It’s a lot to carry over something that took half a second to happen.

You’re not being precious. You’re someone who cares, and that’s never a bad thing.

The good news is that damage doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Done properly, with the right care and the right kit, a repaired panel can look like it never happened. No telltale lines, no colour mismatch, and it holds up for years.

If that sinking feeling sounds familiar, you’re in good company. We’ve been helping Essex drivers get that “just picked it up from the showroom” feeling back since 1987. 🚗✨

Those are Liam’s words, not mine, and honestly they made my week.
Liam came to us with a significant scrape running down the side of his car door. The kind of damage that catches your eye every single time you walk up to your car. 😩
We took it back to bare metal, repaired it properly, and painted it in our spray booth oven. When Liam picked it up, you couldn’t tell anything had ever happened.
Here’s what he said:
“The workmanship is on another level… it now looks better than when it arrived from the factory! Really reasonable rates. Would recommend every day of the week!”
Reviews like this mean the world to us. Most happy customers collect their car and get on with their day (as they should!), so when someone takes the time to write one, Harvey and I really appreciate it. Thank you, Liam. 🙌
And a quick word on price, because Liam mentioned it: a job done properly doesn’t have to cost the earth. It just has to be done correctly, so it looks as good in five years as it does on the day you collect it.
Got a scrape, scuff or dent that’s been bugging you?
👉 Message me “ESTIMATE” and I’ll take a look and give you an honest price, no pressure.

🚘 Value Post: “Don’t do this if you want your repair to look right later”

If you’ve ever had bumper scuffs or panel damage repaired, here’s one thing
to be really careful about—because it can make the difference between a job
that looks spot-on now… and one that still looks right months down the line.

❌ Don’t go chasing shortcuts like “quick fixes” that skip proper prep

When it comes to paint and bodywork, the bit that matters most is usually
the part you can’t see when the car’s back in the driveway.

At Spraymaster, we focus on doing things done properly and done correctly,
because prep affects everything:

* Paint matching (shade, tone, and finish)
* Blend lines (so you can’t spot where the repair was)
* Durability (how long it stays looking good—not just for weeks, but
for 6 months, a year, or five years)
* Safety + correct fitment (especially around bumpers and damaged
areas)

✅ What proper repair actually includes

A good repair isn’t just “paint on top”—it’s the full process done right,
including:

* Correct panel/bodywork preparation
* Plastic welding where needed (our setup includes a nitrogen plastic
welder for bumper repairs)
* Proper paint system application in the workshop environment
(including a spray booth + oven setup)
* Finishing that’s built to last—not just to satisfy today

If you’ve ever looked at a repaired car and thought, “It looks fine… but I
don’t trust it”—this is usually why.
