Do you want fries with that..?
Last night, we were tasked with the rather delicate job of detangling this mess from a McDonald's drive-thru in Coventry.
The vehicle (to which, this body used to be mounted to) had been driven with some considerable force through the height restrictions at the restaurant.
After hitting the first barrier, it's driver - clearly craving a late-night nugget meal - decided against stopping and instead, sent it straight through the drive thru canopy and screens.
This caused the Luton body to part company with the chassis it was attached to - which, incredibly, was driven through the remaining section of the drive thru as if nothing had happened..
Its understood the vehicle then left the scene, in quite a hurry. I Can't think why..
Our brief from the store was to avoid any further damage to the drive thru, particularly the (incredibly expensive) central display screens and intercom - which was now supporting the weight of the body.
We asked for the power to the screens and drive thru be isolated, and worked to form a plan..
We started by cutting access holes in the body, in order to rig strops to the top corner, enabling the ranger to winch it back and out - away from the screen.
Once on the floor, a bit of cutting and weight shedding was in order to get the twisted heap back from whence it came.
The ranger then 'towed' the remains back out the entrance of the drive-thru, and up onto the waiting truck.
We then made good the mess in the lane itself, before es**rting jack and his somewhat unusual cargo back to our Stratford site for storage.
We worked as a team to ease his passage back to base, with several of the lads providing an es**rt in order to keep other drivers clear and be on hand if the load was to shift or move. Which, thankfully it didn't.
Our thanks to the Staff at the McDonald's for their hospitality, and help.
Onto the next..
