Is your MOT due soon? Do not leave it until the last week.
A few things you can check yourself first: all lights working, number plates clean and legible, wipers clearing the screen properly, washer fluid topped up and tyres with plenty of tread. Sorting the small stuff early can save you the hassle of a retest.
You can look up your MOT due date for free on the GOV.UK website using your registration number.

Quick one for this week: the 20p test for your tyres.
Pop a 20p coin into the main grooves of your tyre tread. If you can see the outer band of the coin, your tread is getting low and it is worth having it properly measured. The legal minimum is 1.6mm, but plenty of drivers choose to replace sooner for better grip in the wet. Check across the width of the tyre and on all four, because they do not always wear evenly.
With wet roads around the Swansea Valley for the next few months, good tread makes a real difference to how quickly you can stop.
