McLAREN ® | The Legacy of Bruce McLaren

Two true McLaren legends, Tyler Alexander and Gordon Coppuck, reunite to discuss their experience working with the young Bruce McLaren. Tyler helped found the team alongside Bruce and ony retired from McLaren in 2009. Gordon began his career in 1963, and was chief designer from 1971 to 1980, during which he penned the classic M23 chassis.

McLAREN ® | Time Machine : Derek Bell

Le Mans legend and F1 driver Derek Bell returns to the Silverstone circuit to be reunited with, and drive some fast laps in his four-wheel drive F1 car from 50 years ago – the M9A. It’s the same track that the car made its race debut back in 1969, and also the location of our Pure McLaren Track Weekend. Can he complete more flying laps of the circuit this time around than he did in the race?

BRUCE McLAREN ('1937-1970')

Sheer determination. That’s what people remember most about our founder, Bruce McLaren. It was alive deep within him even as a 15-year-old schoolboy – driving him to rebuild an old Austin 7 from a box of bits, and compete in his first race. The passion for cars, for racing, had been ignited. Working his way up through club races in and around his native Auckland, Bruce’s skill took him to the pinnacle of motorsport – Formula 1™. He won his first grand prix at just 22. The youngest-ever winner at the time. But driving alone wasn’t enough. Bruce had the mind of engineer. He formed a racing team in 1963 to build his own cars. Later, this led to our road car division. Where the spirit of this warm, supremely talented man still inspires every car we build today.

The enduring determination, innovation and passion of our people has led McLaren to unprecedented racing success. Our achievements as a manufacturer include victories across an unmatched spectrum of competition racing. Chief among these triumphs sits the Triple Crown… the incredible feat of winning the Formula 1™ World Championship, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (in our first ever road car, the McLaren F1).
