There’s a big difference between a scan tool that only reads information and one that can actively communicate with supported vehicle systems.

In this real-car demonstration, Farpoint Farms Restorations and Repairs tests the Body Module bidirectional capabilities of the iCarsoft CR MAX P. With supported Active Tests, CR MAX P can send commands to individual vehicle components and let you observe their response in real time.

Why is that useful? If a body-system function isn’t working, an active command can provide another piece of diagnostic evidence. A warning light disappears. What did the car store?

Can a Compact Scanner Actually Control a Subaru Forester? Watch This.

We connected the iCarsoft CR Pro S to a real Subaru Forester to find out whether it could deliver more than basic code reading.

The scanner quickly identified the vehicle using AutoVIN, accessed its available systems and displayed live engine readings—including airflow, throttle position and ignition timing—in clear graphical formats.

Then we tested its bi-directional capability. From the CR Pro S screen, a command was sent to the Forester’s body control system. The door locks responded immediately, with no one touching the vehicle’s key or lock switch.
