A California company has unveiled a solar roof system that could let EVs recharge while driving, potentially reducing the need for frequent charging stops.

The innovative Dart Solar system can fold down to just 5 feet and expand to around 15 feet, with modular panels that can be fitted to almost any vehicle roof rack.

Its modular solar panels can generate 500 to 2,000 watts, depending on the vehicle’s roof size.

A 500W setup can reportedly generate 2,000–2,500 Wh of energy per day, adding around 20 miles of driving range.

The system sends solar power through a portable power station and the EV’s normal charger, creating a portable solar charging setup that could keep adding range on the move.

Japan is building a ship that turns sea water into hydrogen fuel using renewable energy, moving toward zero-emission travel. Wind + solar onboard power electrolyzers that split seawater into H2 fuel. Sails, makes fuel, stores it. Ocean becomes gas station.

Scientists in South Korea just built something straight out of science fiction — a tiny floating capsule that can check and clean water with nothing but a 3-second shake.

No batteries. No electricity. No chemicals. Researchers at Yonsei University designed it to use a small magnet and coil inside, so shaking the capsule generates just enough power to test the water for contamination. If it passes that check, the capsule gets to work killing off harmful microbes using its own built-in electric field, all without plugging into anything.

It's still a research prototype for now, not something you can buy yet, but it's a big step toward cheap, portable clean water tech for places that need it most.

Science keeps surprising us. 🌍💧

Two teenage boys just did what big car companies couldn't.

Rohan Kapoor and Jack Reichert, both 18, from Pennsylvania, built a small filter that clamps onto a car's exhaust pipe — and turns CO₂ pollution into clean oxygen using algae, water, and light.

No fancy lab. No million-dollar budget. Just a $50 device that cuts car emissions by 74%.

If every car on the road used this filter, global carbon emissions could drop by over 16%.

They won the 2023 Changemaker Challenge and are now pushing to work with the EPA to bring it to the world.

Two kids. One big idea. A cleaner planet.

Ferrari Is Getting Serious About Hydrogen Combustion Sports Cars

Over the last few years, Ferrari has obtained multiple patents that cover hydrogen-fueled cars, both with electricity made through a fuel cell and by burning hydrogen directly.

China's Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics has developed a revolutionary solar-powered reactor that converts sunlight, air, and water into liquid jet fuel—without relying on fossil fuels or oil drilling. The system mimics natural photosynthesis at an industrial scale, using concentrated solar energy to drive a thermochemical reaction that produces carbon-neutral kerosene.

The reactor operates through a two-stage process. First, concentrated sunlight heats a cerium oxide chamber to 1,400–1,500°C, breaking down carbon dioxide and water v***r into carbon monoxide and hydrogen—a mixture known as syngas. This syngas is then processed through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, where catalysts bond the molecules into hydrocarbon chains with 9–16 carbon atoms, creating jet fuel that meets aviation standards.

The prototype currently produces approximately 1 liter of kerosene per day with over 95% purity. Scaling calculations suggest that a 100-square-meter reactor module could yield 1,000 liters daily—sufficient to fuel small aircraft and drones. The system operates as a closed loop with zero net CO₂ emissions, since only the carbon captured from the air is incorporated into the fuel. As the technology enters pilot testing with China's aerospace industry, this innovation could transform aviation by enabling aircraft to operate on clean, locally generated fuel produced at airports or remote solar installations.

Scientists in Japan have developed a tiny, matchbox-sized generator that produces electricity using moisture from the surrounding air.

The innovative device is designed to harvest energy directly from humidity without needing sunlight, wind, fuel, or external charging.

Researchers at Osaka University created the generator using a special polymer material that easily absorbs water v***r from humid air.

As ions move through this material, that internal motion can be converted into a stable electric current.

The study, published in an advanced materials journal, describes the device as capable of generating power continuously, even in indoor spaces.

This feature makes the concept especially interesting for locations where solar panels or wind systems may not function effectively.

The technology could one day help power small devices such as remote sensors, medical tools, and low-energy electronics.

Since humidity naturally exists in many environments, it could eventually become a practical source of passive, everyday energy.

For areas with limited electricity access, this kind of ambient energy harvesting could offer a new path toward reliable small-scale power, proving how ordinary air holds useful energy waiting to be captured.
