I am getting asked alot lately about the ethanol fuel and my opinion on whether certain cars can run reliably with it or not.

It has been around for decades and if we talk only about K/KE Jet/CIS cars then according to MB their cars are compatible.

In reality, yes they are, and will run without issues. The problems are when they are not used for longer periods. Lack of use is what causes problems.

In the last 12 months alone I have changed more fuel pumps and injectors/injection system parts than ever before, by a huge margin.

The fuel separates, water ends up in the pumps and in the fine galleries of the fuel distributors and lines causing corrosion. Corrosion inside the aluminum housings causes swelling and either fuel or vacuum leaks. Old fuel damages the rubber diaphragm and seals, breaks down and causes blockages.

Components then need overhaul or replacement which is expensive. It can also happen again quite quickly unless you are using the vehicle or an additive, and I am sure many of you have opinions about which are best, let me know.

I will be doing a series of videos instead coming weeks to hopefully help owners understand these issues and more.
