🚗 Would you have done the same?

This learner thought that because the first exit was straight ahead, there was no need to signal left.

It’s one of the most common misconceptions I see with learner drivers.

The direction of the road doesn’t always determine your signals, the exit you’re taking does. Getting this right can make your intentions much clearer to other road users and help you avoid unnecessary driving test marks.

👉 Watch the clip and let me know…

Would you have used your left indicator here?

This learner wasn’t from this test area 😅

She booked here because she could get a quicker test date ❌

And unfortunately, unfamiliar roads caught her out. 😬

What happened?

🚗 Turning right across oncoming traffic
🚗 Misjudged the gap
🚗 Started the turn
🚗 Had to stop abruptly

The issue wasn’t stopping.

The issue was deciding the gap was safe when it wasn’t.

This is why I always recommend practising around your test centre before test day.

Knowing how the roads flow can make a huge difference in your Irish driving test 🇮🇪🚗

One of the hardest left turns in the Finglas test centre… handled perfectly 👏

What she did right:

✔️ Reduced speed early
✔️ Positioned correctly
✔️ Kept the turn tight
✔️ Looked around the corner
✔️ Spotted the parked car early
✔️ Overtook safely

Most learners struggle here because they approach too quickly and don’t realise what’s waiting around the corner.

The earlier you prepare, the easier the turn becomes. 🚗🇮🇪

One distraction… and suddenly another mistake appears 😬

What happened?

🚶 Potential pedestrian mark
🏍️ Motorcyclist causes distraction
🚦 Potential fail mark at the traffic lights

The lesson here isn’t about the pedestrian or the motorbike.

It’s about maintaining focus.

One of the biggest mistakes learners make is letting one situation distract them from the next.

The road keeps moving, and so should your attention. 🚗🇮🇪

I actually warned him about this before we started the mock test... 😬

Yet it still caught him out.

The problem?

⛔ A faded stop line⛔ A faded STOP marking

Even though they’re difficult to see, the expectation is still that you come to a complete stop.

Am I saying it’s fair? Not necessarily.

But when your driving test is coming up, it’s better to prepare for what’s there than focus on what should be changed.

This is why I always recommend learners drive their test routes beforehand and familiarise themselves with the test centre area.

Sometimes it’s the little details that make the biggest difference on test day. 🚗🇮🇪

She wasn’t looking at the road…

She was looking at the turn 😬

That’s a huge difference.

🚗 Approaching a right turn
🚗 Oncoming traffic has priority
🚗 Doesn’t see the vehicle
🚗 Instructor has to intervene

👉 One of the most common mistakes learners make is focusing on where they’re going instead of what’s around them.

3 marks… one roundabout 😬

What happened:
❌ No right signal on approach
❌ Missed safe gaps (hesitation)
❌ No mirror check exiting

👉 That hesitation alone could be a fail.

Roundabouts can catch people very often!
