SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) SIMI is the official voice of the Motor Industry in Ireland. We represent over 1200 member companies operating within the motor industry.

The SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) is the official voice of the motor industry in Ireland. We are a member's organisation which consists of Dealers, Repairers, Vehicle Distributors, Wholesalers, Retailers, Vehicle Testers and many more important operators within the industry in Ireland. Our role is to represent the views of the motor industry by campaigning to the Government, state bodies, the media and the motoring public.

๐Ÿ“Š Today, we published our official new vehicle registration data for May.
๐Ÿš—New car registrations for May were up 39% with 8,068 units registered compared to 5,822 units in May 2025. Registrations year to date are up 4.7%, reaching 83,038 new cars compared to 79,313 on the same period last year.
The data shows notable growth in new battery electric cars, with 2,335 new BEVs registered in May, which was 115% higher than the 1,086 registrations in May 2025. Year to date, BEV registrations have reached 19,050 units, a 54% on the same period last year.
๐Ÿšš๐Ÿš› In the commercial sector, both Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) experienced increases in registrations for May.

๐Ÿ“Š Today, we published our official new vehicle registration data for April.

๐Ÿš—New car registrations for April were up 17% with 10,184 units registered compared to 8,707 units in April 2025. Registrations year to date are showing a 2.1% increase on the same period last year, with 75,074 new cars registered.

New battery electric car registrations, which delivered another positive performance across all counties, with 2,799 units registered, compared to 1,335 in April 2025. Year-to-date BEV sales have reached 16,779 units, a 48.5% increase on the same period last year.

๐Ÿšš๐Ÿš› In the commercial sector, both Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) experienced a decline in registrations for April.
