Volevate una R8, ma qualcuno in famiglia ha insistito per avere anche le porte dietro.

L’Audi RS4 B7 sembra un compromesso piuttosto ragionevole. Finché non scoprite che quel V8 aspirato da 4,2 litri ha 420 cavalli e supera gli ottomila giri.

Il cambio è manuale a sei marce, quindi siete voi a decidere quanto far durare il concerto. E quanto far preoccupare i vicini.

Questa del 2006 è arrivata dalla Spagna perché la voleva proprio così: berlina. Guardandola, è difficile dargli torto.

Voi la cerchereste berlina o una RS4, per voi, deve essere Avant?

You don’t really pop to the shops in something like this. You arrive with supplies.

And about that fuel bill we mentioned in the reel: at around 25 litres per 100 km, you’re doing rather a lot to support the oil industry.

Unless, of course, you own the oil industry.

So, if you’re a wealthy Texas oilman looking for something modest to run errands in, this 1994 Hummer H1 is for sale at Castauto .

The rest of us can still dream. Would you use it every day?

Cinquant’anni di GTI. E di gente che a casa ha detto: «Tranquilli, è una Golf».

Per festeggiarli abbiamo organizzato una riunione di famiglia: una prima serie del 1982, con 110 cavalli e cinque marce, accanto alla nuova Edition 50 da 325 cavalli, che stiamo guidando in questi giorni con un certo piacere.

La scusa, in fondo, è sempre stata ottima: un’auto pratica, da usare tutti i giorni. Poi, tornando a casa, poteva capitare di allungare un po’ la strada.

Quella del 1982 è di : suo padre la comprò nuova e da allora è sempre rimasta in famiglia. Direi che si sono trovati bene.

Grazie a per averci affidato la nuova GTI Edition 50 e reso possibile questa riunione di famiglia.

Apparently, Mercedes received nearly 700 orders for this. Then decided not to sell it.

Which seems a slightly odd way to run a car company.

This is the C112, built in 1991 with a 6.0-litre V12 behind the seats, 408 PS, a six-speed manual and gullwing doors. You can see why people wanted one.

Mercedes, however, had built it to test new technology, including active suspension and aerodynamics. It was a research car, and it never made production.

Now, we’re all for research. We’d have happily taken one for a fortnight and reported back. Possibly from somewhere in Italy, asking for another fortnight.

Porsche has been looking at its old sports cars. Thankfully, someone took notes.

This is the Mission S, a concept previewing a new family of mid-engined sports cars above the 911.

There’s a bit of GT1, a bit of 959, and a cabin that hasn’t been redecorated by a television salesman.

You get a key on the left, physical controls and an actual needle in the rev counter. No permanently fitted centre screen. Your phone gets a retractable holder, which seems a sensible demotion.

We don’t have confirmed power figures or a price yet. We do, however, have something worth putting on a bedroom wall.

Would you want Porsche to build it looking exactly like this?

Buying an Aston Martin is much easier to explain when it has four doors.

The Rapide S Shadow Edition. A V12 up front, room for the kids in the back, and suddenly you’re volunteering for every school run.

We’d probably leave the fuel bills out of the conversation.
