Leighton Whyte is a trained and experienced Registered Architect who continues to utilize his acquired skills, abilities and competences to effectively and efficiently execute the planning, and administering of complex architectural design programs, proposals and contracts. He also seeks to maintain effective team relationships, with his keen interests in expert project reporting, supervision and management. Leighton Whyte joined the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) as Intermediate Architect on 2010 June 07, assigned to the Architecture Department – Development Planning and Management Division. A graduate of Calabar High School, Mr. Whyte has a Master of Architecture degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTECH). He also participated in several training programmes for which he received certification namely: Certificate in Construction Technology from UTECH, Certificate in Construction Technology from Excelsior Community College, Certificate in Windows Applications from Individual Systems Limited and Certificate in Computer Aided Drafting – AutoCAD (Level 1) from Institute of Computer Aided Design & Drafting. Whyte gained his experience in the architectural field, having worked at Marvin Goodman & Associates as Architect’s Assistant and Intern Architect, Interface Designs as Architect’s Assistant, Royale Homes Limited as Assistant Inventory Controller and Islandwide Construction Limited as Junior Construction Supervisor. Whyte is the recipient of several awards for outstanding academic performance from UTECH, such as - Best Academic Performance at the Masters Level (Years 1 & 2), Best Academic Performance at the Degree Level (Year 3), and Outstanding Academic Performance – Technician Level (Year 3). Project Inception

Schematic Design - Preparing preliminary design sketches based on your program of requirements and budget to explore and illustrate design possible options with efficient site planning, function, quality, cost and appearance through the use of computer aided designs (CAD). Design Development - Refining the agreed schematic design for a clearer definition of the scope, cost and quality of the project. Construction Documents - Preparing working drawings and specifications as required for statutory approvals and bids, and to guide the contractor in construction. We have extensive experience of Jamaica’s planning regulations and can help you successfully navigate any application for planning permission. Bidding and Negotiation – Advising you on your choice of contractor through the evaluation of bids, and contract preparation between you and the contractor. Construction and Contract Administration - Consult with you and provide technical oversight during construction with On-site visits, progress reports and authorizing staged payments to determine if construction is proceeding in accordance with the contract from start to completion.
