Which vehicle shape actually provides more usable cargo space?

SUVs and crossovers are incredibly popular for family transport, but when it comes to maximizing raw interior volume, the traditional minivan shape is hard to beat.

Both have a relatively similar footprint, but their packaging priorities are completely different. The Serena's boxy architecture, lower load floor, and taller roofline create significantly more vertical space for cargo.
The X-Trail offers more ground clearance and a different driving dynamic, which inherently changes the interior floor height and roof shape.

Kei trucks like the Suzuki Carry have to fit within Japan's strict size and engine-displacement limits. So how do they still manage to carry so much?

A big part of the answer is the cab-over layout. With the cab positioned over the front part of the vehicle, the truck can keep its overall length compact while leaving plenty of room for the cargo bed.

It's a simple idea that makes a big difference when every centimetre counts.
