CONTROL PARTS OF A HELICOPTER
1. Cyclic Control Stick
Located between the pilot's legs.
Controls the direction of flight.
Moving it:
oForward → helicopter moves forward.
oBackward → helicopter moves backward.
oLeft → helicopter moves left.
oRight → helicopter moves right.
Changes the pitch of the rotor blades during rotation.
2. Collective Pitch Lever
Located on the pilot's left side.
Controls altitude (climb and descent).
Raising the collective:
oIncreases rotor blade pitch.
oProduces more lift.
oHelicopter climbs.
Lowering it decreases lift and causes descent.
3. Throttle Control
Usually integrated into the collective on many helicopters.
Controls engine power and rotor RPM.
Must be coordinated with collective movements.
4. Anti-Torque Pedals (Rudder Pedals)
Located on the floor.
Control the tail rotor thrust.
Used to:
oTurn the helicopter left or right (yaw).
oCounteract the torque produced by the main rotor.
5. Primary Flight Display (PFD)
Shows essential flight information:
Airspeed
Altitude
Attitude (aircraft orientation)
Vertical speed
Heading
6. Multifunction Display (MFD)
Provides:
GPS navigation
Moving maps
Engine information
Weather data (if equipped)
System monitoring
7. Engine and System Instruments
Monitor:
Engine RPM
Rotor RPM
Oil pressure
Oil temperature
Fuel quantity
Turbine temperature
8. Radio and Communication Panel
Used for:
Air Traffic Control (ATC) communication
Ground communication
Emergency frequencies
Intercom operation
9. Circuit Breaker Panel
Protects electrical systems from overloads.
Pilots can reset certain systems if a breaker trips.
10. Warning and Caution Lights
Alert the pilot to:
Low fuel
Engine problems
Hydraulic failures
Electrical faults
Fire warnings
