Today, our team of engineers at Autos Inspection Abuja carried out a detailed inspection on a 2014 Honda Accord based on a client’s request.

Following our inspection, findings revealed that the vehicle had previously been involved in a collision, despite its impressive outward appearance. Fortunately, the airbags had not deployed, and the vehicle’s structural frame remained intact.

A comprehensive and in-depth inspection report, including our professional recommendations, was subsequently sent to the client to aid informed decision-making.

At Autos Inspection Abuja, we remain committed to helping our clients secure reliable vehicles through thorough and professional inspections. Always count on us to deliver trusted automotive inspection services.

Timing Belts: Made of a high-quality rubber compound reinforced with nylon cords, these have teeth on the inside to prevent slipping. They are generally quieter and cheaper to manufacture, but they degrade over time and must be replaced at specific mileage intervals (typically every 60,000 to 100,000 miles) to prevent snapping, which can cause catastrophic engine damage.

Timing Chains: Constructed from metal, these resemble a heavy-duty bicycle chain. They are more durable and are often designed to last the entire lifespan of the engine. While they can be slightly noisier and more expensive to produce, they rarely break, though the plastic tensioners or guides that keep them in place may eventually require service.

Most of what we are told at the mechanic workshop is Street Logic, not Engineering Certainty. If your mechanic is kind enough he will tell you to change oil every 500km or 6 months (whichever is earlier) So...Let’s correct three major errors I see in the Nigerian car scene:

1. The Color Fallacy:
People rush to me saying, Oga, the oil is black!
Good! That means the detergents are working. Modern oil is a scavenger. If it doesn't turn black, it means the carbon is clogging your VVT solenoids and piston rings.

2. The Cold Drain Error:
Draining cold oil is an engineering sin. Cold oil is thick and lazy, it leaves behind 15% of the old debris. We drain WARM to ensure a total flush.

3. The Traffic Factor:
Nigeria is a Severe Service environment.
If you use Full Synthetic (API SN/SP), you don't need to change it at 5,000km. You can safely go to 8,000km. We only pull it early to account for the Idling Hours in our legendary traffic.

Greetings to all car owners,

The Nigerian market is flooded with oil that looks premium but is actually poison for modern VVT engines.
Forget the brand. Flip the bottle. Look for the API SERVICE symbol.

The Modern Test:
If your car is post-2010, you need API SP or SN Plus. These grades handle the heat and sludge that favorite 20w-50 cannot.

Using an SJ or SL rated oil (which you find in most cheap gallons) in a modern precision engine is like giving a baby hard Eba. It’s too heavy, lacks the right detergents, and will eventually clog your catalytic converter and oil strainer.

If the bottle doesn't have a clear, verifiable API Donut, it is a gamble. Your engine is an investment, not a lab rat.

Engineering Certainty over Guesswork.

Running on “vapors” might seem harmless, but it slowly damages your car.

Many drivers think driving with very low fuel is not a big deal. However, damage can already be starting inside your fuel tank.

Fuel is not only for driving; it also cools and lubricates your fuel pump.

When the fuel level drops:
• The fuel pump works harder
• It overheats
• It wears out much faster

Over time, dirt and sediment settle at the bottom of the tank. When fuel is low, this debris can be drawn into the system, leading to:
• Clogged fuel filters
• Damaged fuel injectors
• Poor engine performance and misfires

You may not break down today, but you are increasing the risk of costly repairs in the future.

To protect your car:
• Keep your fuel tank above one-quarter full
• Protect your fuel system
• Drive smarter

Experienced mechanics avoid driving on empty.
Fill up early, save money, and protect your car.

How to Prevent battery terminal Corrosion
• Apply petroleum jelly or terminal grease lightly on the terminals.
• Or spray a battery terminal protector (available at auto shops).
• Ensure tight connections loose terminals promote corrosion.
• Check that the battery is properly secured (vibration causes leaks).
• Clean the terminals during routine servicing.

Many people get deceived by low mileage when buying used cars, but mileage doesn’t always mean the car is good. Proper maintenance matters far more.

A well-kept car can reach up to 1,000,000 km on the same engine. This one has 450,000 km and still runs great.

Most “low-mileage” cars under 160,000 km are not real odometer rollback takes less than 10 minutes. Dealers only do it because buyers expect it.

Let’s be realistic: a 2004 car with under 180,000 km? That’s not normal. Buyers also need to adjust their expectations.
