An insight into my last week:
Last weekend I was delivering basic handling skills training and testing over the entire weekend. Some people measure their effectiveness as an instructor in test passes or social media reviews, I measure it by genuinely seeing riders achieve what they thought were insurmountable and the occasional emotional hug at the end of the process really affirms that the job of an instructor is pivotal in achieving dreams.
The next couple of days were dedicated to CBTA licence testing. As part of the new restricted and full licencing system, enhanced skills will fast track the candidate to pass a more advanced test based on roadcraft. All of the candidates I had through on the day had undertaken previous training through the rideforever training program or our platinum one on one coaching course so the success rate was 100%. Good Job!
On Wednesday I had to conduct an advanced riding assessment on behalf of the NZTA instructor qualification for a candidate who had flown to Auckland from the south Island. Part of the certification process and there are only a few people across the country authorised to conduct this assessment. Pleasure to ride with you Stephen, and a very well prepared candidate Trevor.
Thursday was interesting, more CBTA testing and some one on one training followed by a licence test but also taking off my professional instructor’s hat and replacing it with the role I occasionally play as an examiner for the IAM advanced motorcycle test. Very well done Paul. I love riding with the most focused and capable riders and much kudos to the support team at IAM for developing and mentoring along the way
And today I decided to upskill and take a rideforever Gold course with another training provider to have some independent feedback. We never stop learning.
On Sunday I will be supporting the pink ribbon ride to help with marshalling and hopefully smooth the transition to hand over the role for our next generation of volunteers.

We all have a common passion, and can contribute skills from all walks of life. Today's rideforever silver course saw 'Speedy Manu' (driving instructor and quick change artist extradorinaire) Simeon (got the sliding Gates sorted) and Steve (Comms for emergency response). We all rely on each other in this world. A very enjoyable course today with a good combination of belly laughs and learning opportunities
