SOT 2026 Day 3 - Much better results and a mostly pretty good vibe in the Mecanica garage. After a tyre scrub it was straight into SS open race 2. My start was a bit average but I managed to out-brake a couple of bikes into turn one and settle into P4. lap two I made a dive into the hairpin and claimed 3rd. The front 2 had pulled a bit of a gap but still insight. Glenn looked like he was on a mission when he overcooked the infield right hander and crashed out of the lead.😟 I kept the pressure on but there was no way of catching Steve so ended up a strong second.

Besides our best-efforts Glenn’s bike was too bent to continue so that effectively left me on pole for race 3. I was out paced off the line again but still hot on the heals of Steve out of turn one. He pulled a bit of a gap on the straight bits and I gained a bit back in the twisties but it wasn’t enough. Another 2nd in the bag and surprisingly enough points for 3rd overall despite the race 1 DNFπŸ˜„
Steve on his Mecanica M1100RS took 3 from 3 and the Superstock Open title. Damo on my old M1100RS 2nd overall. A podium lockout for Mecanica.πŸ‘

F2 race 2 was much better, placing 6th behind a bunch of much faster 4 valve bikes. Initially I had the pace to go with one of the Triumph 675s and made a pass around the outside through the carousel. Managed to hold him off until the straight where I got blasted back past. I caught back up and was going to make the same pass again but thought it too risky so settled for first 2 valve bike over the line.πŸ‘

Mecanica bikes did well all round. Campbell (M700R) taking out F3 and 2nd in SS ltd. PBs for Jay (M1100R-24) 1:44.4, Damo 1:41.1, Evan (750ie) 1:44.6. Andy had a ball and Zane was much happier and faster on the old 900.

A very successful weekend and awesome fun. Thanks to Sue the crew and everyone that supports us.
Oh, and did I mention I got to ride a Britten!🀩

SOT 2026 day 2 - A day with lows and highest of highs. A 5:30am start to have time to pick up some bits and bobs to repair Andy Taylors bike. New fuel lines done and running by 8am. πŸ™‚ Tested and going fine πŸ‘ SS Open race 1 - I was pushing hard in lap 1 to keep in touch with Glenn and Steve on their 1100s. Not enough heat in the tyre through Nana's and lost the front. I thought, I got this, but no I didn't and down I went. πŸ˜• Airbag vest worked great and bike not too bad. All good, sort of. A bit of a panic to get gear and body checked out as I had been invited to ride one of the most iconic bikes on the planet during the lunch break. Yes a Britten V1000 🀩 What a privilege and awesome experience. πŸ‘ Huge thanks to Jeff (the owner), Craig and the team. By the time I had come back to earth the Mecanica garage team boys had my bike fixed. Awesome guys πŸ‘. A 9th in F2 was a little disappointing but still great fun. I was struggling with front grip and my brake lever wasn't right, which made me quite cautious. I just wanted to bring it home. A new front slick, some brake pads and a few tweaks and we're all set for tomorrow. Congratulations to Steve Gibbons bringing his Mecanica M1100RS home in first and clocking up a few 1:39s along the way. πŸ‘

Sound of Thunder day 1 - rain stayed away and practice/qualifying went pretty good. P2 in SS Open with a new PB on the 900 of 1:41.01. Went quicker again in F2 with a 1:40.7 and a spot on the front row. Lots of PBs in the Mecanica camp so everyone's happy apart from Andy. Perished fuel lines bringing his bike to a halt before setting a time.πŸ₯Ί Mental note to check the in tank lines more often. πŸ€”

After an all night downpour day 2 turn out dry but cold. Third seemed to be my spot in BEARS SuperStock Open. 3rd in both races, 3rd for the weekend and 3rd overall in the BEARS South Island TrophyπŸ˜€. I just didn't have the pace to stay with the front 2. I could keep close on the first lap but as soon as the gas was opened on the straight the gap just grew lap after lap. Overall I'm pretty happy with the result though, got down to a 1:07.8 and put it on the podium. Not bad for an old carby 900 πŸ‘

Teretonga has been kind to us so far. Predicted rain stayed away until after racing πŸ‘ Qualified 7th in my race group with a 1:09. Kept chipping away at it to get down to a 1:08.6 and scored a couple of thirds in SS Open. Gearing is wrong for the infield but otherwise the Mecanica 900R is running strong. Looking forward to 2 more races tomorrow and hoping the weather plays ball. πŸ™‚

And here we go again. All packed for the Burt Munro Challenge and round 2 of the BEARS South Island Trophy. πŸ™‚

I had a lot of fun at round one of the BEARS South Island Trophy. The highlight for me was the 8 lap race 2. A better start got me a little bit further up the field into turn one but still pretty much swamped by the fast bikes. First five laps I had a great battle with a Triumph 675 swapping places several times. I had to use every bit of race craft to finally get far enough ahead not to get blasted back past down the straight. Once clear I set another PB of 1:41.4 and managed a podium in my class. πŸ‘ Forth overall means I am going to have to work a bit harder if I want to see any silverware at round 2 this weekend. But at least I am getting closer to my rivals and having a ball πŸ˜€ Picture credit ASP

Race day started out with a PB on the 900. I was looking to improve on that in qualifying but continually got caught up in traffic. 😏 Race one was a lot of fun but pretty slow by my standards. A less powerful bike certainly makes it more challenging. Good times and great weather. Bring on tomorrow. πŸ™‚πŸ‘
