For anyone reading this page it was set up for the wonderful staff who worked at the old BP marshlands before it was taken over by BP Connect who didnt want us!!

A $20 million supermarket will be built next to Christchurch's Prestons subdivision.

A New World supermarket, with retail space and car parks, will be built on the corner of Prestons and Marshland roads after Foodstuffs South Island was granted resource consent for the project.

Foodstuffs is a partner in the Prestons development with Ngai Tahu Property and CDL Land New Zealand.

The neighbouring Prestons subdivision, offering up to 2600 new houses, was a major drawcard for the firm.

Foodstuffs South Island spokesman Roger Davidson said the company did not have a starting date for construction as it was "dictated by the speed and development of Prestons".

However, it was hoped building would be under way in 18 months.

The supermarket ground floor will be 3576 square metres, and the complex will also house a cafe, bistro and shops.

There will be two-way vehicle access from the supermarket to Prestons and Marshland roads, and access to the adjoining BP service station.

Like the subdivision, the land on which the supermarket is being built on is TC1.

Prestons Road Ltd chairman David Schwartfeger said 120 of the first stage of 200 sections had been sold, and earthworks for all 750 sections in the northern stage would be completed by the end of the year.
