Recently I posted on Facebook on a Saturday evening that we were quietly celebrating Tyre Savers being in business for 50 years. 50 years is a massive achievement so why announce it on a Saturday night, the same night that the Waikato Chiefs were playing, and one of the time slots with a lesser amount of digital traffic?
Here’s why.
We have only owned the business for 6 years. The business has only had a digital presence for this short period of time. Prior to 2020 there was no Facebook, no Insta, no website, nothing like that. Prior to 2020 there was 44 years of pure legacy, through a number of owners and staff who so passionately built the brand for us to take over and grow.
Our idea of growth was to apply some form of ‘today and beyond’, but never let go of the traditional nature of how the place ticked. There has always been a vision to respect the brand and those that came before us.
So yes, massive achievement with a whole tonne of blood, sweat and tears, but would previous owners Les, Paddy or Clive & Karen (all R.I.P.) have smashed out a big Facebook post? No. But we owe it to them to let our (their) customers know and thank them for shopping with us right? We also need to offer a massive thanks to them and each and every staff member that has come through the doors yeah! All those who used to work here, many of whom will read this, have in some way added to the legacy. I mean that sincerely! Some have gone on to become competitors and some come back in as customers. So cool.
The current bunch of boys at the shop really do make the day a pleasure. They help me not grow up, which I firmly believe is one of the most important things to hold dear to. They humour me when I say or do dumb s**t. They help me know what’s right, they help me laugh, but most importantly they help guide the ship so it serves its customer with honesty, respect and integrity. They help us foster and grow amazing and enduring customer relationships. Can’t ask for more than that.
We won’t be here for the whole of the next 50 years but god willing we will be here for a while, and so will keep on trucking the same way we have done, more or less. So to all the customers of the last 50 years……Thank you!!! Thank you for being part of the Tyre Savers life and existence. You, the previous owners, the amazing suppliers and the staff that have worked here really are, as a whole, TYRE SAVERS.
