📦 **Ready to Move? Pack Your Boxes the SMART Way for a Smooth Transition!**

Moving house doesn’t have to be a headache. With the right packing strategies, you’ll save your back, protect your valuables, and breeze through unpacking. Here are our top tips for making your move stress-free 👇

---

🗂️ **1. Sort by Room & Keep Similar Items Together**
Pack one room at a time, grouping like items—kitchenware stays with kitchenware, clothing with clothing. This makes unpacking much simpler and more organised!

📦 **2. Choose the Right Box & Balance the Weight**
- **Small boxes:** Books, canned goods, tools
- **Medium boxes:** Dishes, toys, small kitchen appliances
- **Large boxes:** Bedding, pillows, towels

Always put heavier items at the bottom and lighter ones on top. If a box feels too heavy, split the contents—better safe than sorry.

🫧 **3. Protect Fragile Items**
Wrap breakables separately. Pad the bottom of the box, fill all gaps, and label the box as **FRAGILE** so it gets handled with care.

🏷️ **4. Label Everything Clearly**
Go beyond just the room name—use labels like “Bedroom – Winter Clothes” or “Kitchen – Glassware.” Mark at least two sides for easy identification.

🎒 **5. Prepare an Essentials Box**
Set aside must-haves like toiletries, chargers, snacks, and a spare outfit. Keep this close so you’re not digging through boxes on your first night.

---

✨ **Packing smart? Next step: safe transport.**

🚚 Shifting to a new place? Don’t just count your boxes, make sure there’s room for the big stuff, too!

It’s easy to underestimate how much space things like couches, beds, fridges, and washing machines actually need. When planning your move, remember to include all your bulky items when sizing up your van:

🛋️ Sofas and lounge suites
🛏️ Beds & mattresses
❄️ Fridges & freezers
🧺 Washing machines
🪑 Dining tables & chairs
🗄️ Wardrobes & drawers
📦 Moving boxes
🌿 Patio or garden furniture

A small van can be fine for a handful of items, but for a full house move, you’ll probably need more space than you think. Choosing a bigger van or a Handy Rentals moving truck. It can save you the headache of multiple trips and make your move much smoother.

Handy Rentals is trusted by thousands across New Zealand for easy, stress-free moves. We’ll help you get the perfect vehicle for your move, big or small.

Hiring a van? The size you choose matters more than the price. 🚐

One of the most common mistakes people make when hiring a van is starting with "what's the cheapest option?" — when the better question is "what size will actually get the job done?"

Choose too small and you're making extra trips, spending more on fuel, and wasting your Saturday.
Choose too large and you're paying for space you don't need.

Here's a quick guide to our cargo van range:

📦 Small (5–6m³) – Furniture pickups, deliveries, tools & equipment
📦 Medium (7–8m³) – Appliances, business deliveries, mixed loads
📦 Large (9–10m³) – Bigger furniture moves, multi-room loads
📦 Extra Large (11–13m³) – Maximum space for big jobs & commercial transport

And the best bit? All of our vans can be driven on a standard Class 1 car licence — no truck licence needed.

Not sure which size suits your job? Give the Handy team a call — we're happy to help you work it out.
