It's been a few months of falcons down at the workshop. Two GT Falcons and an XB panel van have been and gone. The panel van had a different colour code than usual. Normally they are a single letter but this one was y359. Turns out it's a special order colour used in a company fleet. The roofs on these panel vans are huge. The brown XB was in for a repair after a wee mishap and needed to be fixed before heading down to Invercargill for the GT nationals. The purple (mulberry metallic) falcon was a huge job. Originally it was going to be taken to Australia for restoration but I meet the owners brother Ian Boote at one of Tim Millers parties and convinced him that I could do the job. I gave him a business card and a short time later he called me back. I ended up finished some parts for his red pepper XBGT sedan and he was impressed with what I had done for him and was confident I could do the XB coupe. He convinced his brother Craig that the job could be done local. After a couple of beers with Ian and Craig and them telling me about their very high standards I assured them I was the man for the job.. The metal work was done by my friend and legend himself Jeff Marshall and the filling and shaping was done by me. Nearly 400 hours I put into this car making sure the very high standards the brothers have were meet. Ian would ride his e bike down to my workshop and check up almost daily to make sure things were going to plan. The cars went to the GT nationals in Invercargill and cleaned up with Craig's XB coupe winning Best Falcon and people's choice and Ian XB sedan coming in second.. Two of New Zealands best GT falcons all done in Nelson by a team of awesome guys.
