He might not be able to drive the cars, but he’s certainly driven the business forward.

And the story of how Derek ended up owning Rent Me Rentals is a pretty good one…

Derek was working for the previous owners when they asked him to take a look at their rental business.

He quickly saw its potential, but just as he was getting stuck into it, they decided to sell.

Fast forward to an anniversary dinner in Wellington, where Derek was telling his wife Marcia how it would be an exciting opportunity for someone.

That’s when she said five words he’ll never forget…

“Why don’t we buy it?”

So they did! 😂

What followed was 18 months of Derek essentially working seven days a week, juggling his other job while building Rent Me Rentals.

Then COVID hit, and he made the decision to go all in on the business.

And the rest, as they say, is history. 💚

Although we’re not sure Marcia knew quite what she was signing up for that night! 🤣

So next time you see Derek around the yard, be sure to say hello. Just don’t ask him to deliver your rental car! 😜

Well, it’s official… we’ve been cleaned out! 🎉

These were the last two cars to leave the yard today, and now there’s not a single vehicle left!

Not a bad way to kick off Labour Weekend. 🙌

But seriously, a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us and chosen to hire local. We couldn’t do what we do without you, and seeing an empty yard is a pretty awesome feeling! 💚

Our team has certainly earned a breather and are looking forward to putting their feet up before the vehicles start rolling back in!

So, what’s everyone up to this long weekend? Heading away or enjoying a few days at home? 👀

It’s been all go at the Rent Me Rentals yard today!

18 vehicles headed out the gates today as everyone gets ready to make the most of the Labour Weekend break!

And we’ve been loving hearing what everyone’s got planned. From groups heading away together, visitors to the Kāpiti Coast hitting the road to explore further north, to house moves and those long-overdue clear-outs finally getting ticked off the list.

It’s pretty cool knowing our vehicles are playing a little part in so many different long weekend plans.

Long before Rent Me Rentals had a second location here, Levin was home for both of us.

We’re Derek and Marcia, the owners of Rent Me Rentals. We both grew up in Levin, our families have strong ties here, and over the years there have been plenty of trips back and forth.

So when we started thinking about where Rent Me Rentals might go next, Levin just made sense.

Rent Me Rentals has been part of the Kāpiti Coast for more than 30 years, starting with one van outside a car yard and slowly growing into the fleet you see today.

We took over the business in 2018, and Paraparaumu is still very much home. But now we get to add another chapter, right back where our own stories started.

We’re starting small in Levin, with trucks and 12-seater vans available locally, plus work vans and car rentals available on request.
