The Cost of Being Caught Out

Last week should have been all about celebrating my daughter’s birthday.

Instead, I spent the day dealing with the aftermath of an attempted burglary.

The burglar didn’t manage to get into the house and didn’t steal anything, but they still left me with more than $400 worth of damage after destroying the external meter box. The result? A day without power, an unexpected electrician’s bill, and plenty of stress.

It was one of those frustrating situations where you’re left thinking, “What a waste.”

Nothing was gained. Money was spent. Time was lost. Stress levels went through the roof.

As I stood there waiting for the electrician, it got me thinking about all the other unexpected problems that can suddenly derail your day.

One of the most common?

A flat car battery.

Unlike a burglary, a battery failure is often something you can see coming—if you know what to look for.
