Belt Driven Robot - 2Dof Differential Joint, made by .dives

This fully functional 3D-printed differential robotic wrist showcases advanced mechanical design and motion control. The system uses a differential gear mechanism driven by two NEMA pancake stepper motors, allowing complex and simultaneous pitch and roll movements through coordinated motor control.

Powered by an ESP32 microcontroller and TMC2209 silent stepper drivers, the wrist delivers smooth and quiet operation. The entire assembly is 3D printed and features custom belt-driven reductions with physically verified gear ratios of 6.15:1 for the pitch axis and 3.35:1 for the roll axis.

The project also includes a custom MicroPython trajectory controller with absolute coordinate positioning, dynamic time-based movement calculations and Bresenham’s Linear Interpolation algorithm. This enables perfectly synchronized motion, ensuring multiple axes start and finish their movements at the exact same millisecond.

This box keeps you valuables save by hiding them behind the scary visage of medusa. Rotate the head to retrackt the snakes and open the box.

You will need a single short m3 screw to secure the mechanism to to the lid. A well calibrated printer is needed to keep the linkages on the snakes smooth. A bit of (white) l**e also helps a lot.
