A SEA OF LANTERNS IN LAMPHUN (โคมแสนดวง). One of Northern Thailand’s most beautiful Lanna traditions is back.!
From 1 October – 30 November 2026, Lamphun is filled with colourful lanterns for the เทศกาลโคมแสนดวง, centred around Wat Phra That Hariphunchai. The lanterns are offered as Buddhist worship, with light traditionally symbolising prosperity, peace and a brighter path in life.
A little temple history: Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is one of Lamphun’s most important temples and a major pilgrimage site from the ancient Hariphunchai era. Its main golden chedi is believed to enshrine relics of the Buddha, and the temple remains one of the spiritual hearts of Lamphun today.
🚗 It’s also a perfect day trip from Chiang Mai , explore the old city, visit the temple, hang your own lantern and enjoy one of the most beautiful festivals of the season.
