The sliding pins can also seize in your caliper due to high temperatures. Make sure and use a grease that is specifically made for brakes. Regular grease WILL NOT WORK. It will dry up quickly under the high temperature cycles which will cause even bigger problems. There is also a rubber seal in one of the sliding pins, and some greases will cause that rubber to 'swell' preventing smooth sliding. Also. You don't need plenty grease. A light coat is just right. Too much can cause problems with the pin sliding smoothly.

The sliding pins for my Mazda B2500 seized on me many years ago. Back then I used regular synthetic grease (I didn't know better). Same as the axle, it took quite a lot of heat together with a hammer and vice-grip pliers to get it out.

To clean out the old grease, you can use the same pin to pull out the majority of grease by inserting it several times wiping it clean each attempt. Then you can use a fine screw driver wrapped with a cloth to further clean out inside. Be sure to not let the metal screw driver scrape the inside. You can also use brake cleaner to spray out inside ensuring all the cleaner properly dries before reinstallation. Last, check your dust booth seals to tears/cracks. Change if necessary. If you are in a pinch and can't get replacement dust booth seals, a little bit of silicone (I personally find the Mega Grey to work the best) on the damaged area can get you by. I recommend changing grease everytime you change brake pads. It's not a difficult procedure.

(NOTE: I am not a certified mechanic. So any advice given is from my own experience over many years of working on my own vehicles. These methods work well for me and have proven to be reliable.)

While I made do with the tiny brakes, it's always good to have a more reliable setup. I think the little extra weight gain is a justified loss for the demanding situations on the track. The other benefit now is that I have a wide variety of brake pads I can use as compared to the limited options I had. These are basically the same size as an SIR EK Civic front brakes. A pretty good upgrade when you consider weight vs performance. Remember, the Castrol Fit doesn't have a lot of horsepower/torque, so every gram counts.

I'm also using Honda Modulo X suspension (acquired from a Honda Fit RS). "Modulo is Honda's official, in-house brand for customization and genuine aftermarket accessories. Specially tuned dampers and springs designed to improve cornering and ride comfort without making the car overly harsh." As you can see, it also lowered the car a little.

You don't know the importance until trouble starts. ALWAYS use Anti-Seize on the axle spline. Ever since we got the Castrol Fit, I never took out the axle from the spline, until today. If you ever changing a bushing in your suspension and have the ability to slide the axle out the spindle, I highly suggest you out some Anti-Seize.

So why did the axle seize? As I said, it's been many many years (manufactured in 2009) that axle never came out. I'd like to say moisture was the main issue, but to be honest, there wasn't visible 'rust' on the axle spline. What I noticed was a hard black substance on it. Is it corrosion? Maybe. What I will say is that due to the excessive heat cycles the brakes undergo, especially using it on the race track, it would definitely aid in the creation of that black substance which seized it. The rotors were extremely small, thus they would overheat after two good laps. Just look at all the fireworks from the rotors/brake pads under braking! In fact, after 2 hard stops, the rotors would be stained blue/purple. Thankfully, with the new brake upgrade, I shouldn't have brake fade for the level of racing the car undergoes. And with the CRC Industries Trinidad & Tobago high temperature copper anti seize, it would be protected when it does.

A 40tonne press and heating with a torch still wasn't enough. We had to take sacrificial measures.

As we always say, it can't be seized if it's a liquid. Ended up blowing a hole thru the side if the spindle to get heat directly in the middle of the axle spline. After A LOT of heat and a very persuasive junk of steel for a hammer, it finally came out.

Really appreciative to TigWerkz Nigel Ramberan for spending half his rare 'day off' to help me fight with this thing. Imagine we found a machine shop open on a Sunday evening.

Just when you thought everything was going so well, I encountered a seized axle. See why I use CRC Industries Trinidad & Tobago anti seize on everything?? (This is the first time taking out the axle on this car btw.)

There was corrosion building up on the original shock head. To prevent the new shocks from acquiring the same, FT Farfan Ltd. sponsored me some CRC Industries Trinidad & Tobago SP-400 Corrosion Inhibitor. In the future when ever I need to remove the shocks, I know a hammer, torch and grinder wouldn't be needed. (We've all been there working on cars).
