If you're seeing a puddle like this under YOUR car, you've got an oil leak, and you need to address it right away! If an oil leak is more subtle than this, you may notice a burning oil smell, blue smoke in your exhaust, a low oil warning light, or sputtering or misfiring of your engine. The engines of European import cars run a bit hotter than their domestic counterparts, and this may lead to quicker wearing of your gaskets and seals, particularly in the hot Summer months. As these cars are intended to run with precise oil pressures, these problems can quickly spiral into major problems if left ignored up to major engine damage or even fires! So, if you're a Euro import owner or driver, be mindful, and, if you need some help, give us a call at (609) 380-7577 or stop by our shop located on the White Horse Pike in Absecon, NJ, and we'll take great care of you AND your car!

At the moment, our bays are occupied by some "heavy hitters" in the European import brands: BMW, Porsche, Mercedes (3 more earlier), and Audi! We also had a Ford earlier, and more Mercedes will be here this afternoon. We're sometimes asked what makes we work on, and the answer is: 88% Euro imports and 12% domestic. Mercedes is the brand we see the most, followed by BMW, Porsche, Land Rover, Audi, and Volvo. If you're driving any one of those brands, and you're not already a customer of ours, we invite you to come in and experience the DITMIRE DIFFERENCE! Question: What IS an AGM car battery?

Answer: AGM stands for "Absorbent Glass Mat", and it is the new "standard battery" for many European import cars and trucks. In fact, since 2020, 50% of the new cars models that came out require AGM batteries….especially European import cars that have more robust electronics. By 2027, 1/3 of all new cars will require AGM batteries, and they can only be replaced with new AGM batteries: they cannot be downgraded to "ordinary" lead acid "flooded" batteries without serious negative consequences. A few interesting points about them:

-Electrolytes are held in glass mats, so NO MORE SPILLS
-Fully sealed, so zero water loss
-Maintenance-free
-Stronger starts and faster recharging
-Better durability to harsh weather conditions
-Longer battery life
-Particularly well-suited to cars equipped with modern start/stop technology

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER....and we believe educated customers are our best customers!

A car battery is just a car battery, right? Well, yes....and possibly no. We don't see it too often, but we have definitely seen customers using the wrong batteries in their cars or trucks, and we're quick to inform them. European import cars and trucks rely on integrated electrical networks and computers that require specific batteries and procedures to meet their needs. Here are a few things to consider:

1. "Standard" lead acid batteries vs. AGM: the standard "flooded" batteries that many of us are familiar with are not compatible with many Euro imports, many of which now use AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries that permit constant draw for the heavier electronics. In fact, since 2020, 50% of the new car and truck models use AGM batteries….especially European import vehicles. They can only be replaced with new AGM batteries….they CANNOT be downgraded to lead acid flooded batteries without negative consequences!

2. Batteries need to be carefully matched to the specific electrical capacities and cold cranking amps (CCA) of the cars they will power. Many Euro imports require high capacities and much higher CCAs than their domestic counterparts due to the more extensive electronics.

3. In many Euro import vehicles, new battery installations need to be accompanied by reprogramming of your car's vehicle computer (ECU) to adjust the battery charging rate. This is common problem for many who attempt DIY installations or use Euro-unqualified services to perform their installations. Having professionals who are familiar with the specifications unique to YOUR vehicle do your battery installations side-steps this problem.

So what happens when you ignore these points? Well, a lot of the "electrical glitches" commonly associated with Euro imports for one. Overworking your alternator can be another problem, as can premature wearing out and replacements of your battery if it's not up to powering a Euro import. You can also experience electronic systems failures. So BE CAREFUL when you need to replace your battery....and give us a call at (609) 380-7577 or stop by our shop on the White Horse Pike in Absecon, NJ. We perform a lot of battery replacements for Euro imports, so you're in good hands....and we'll take great care of you AND your car!

ATTENTION EUROPEAN IMPORT CAR AND TRUCK OWNERS, DRIVERS, AND ENTHUSIASTS OF SOUTH JERSEY: are YOU hearing a metallic rattling sound coming from your engine on a cold startup? Is your car idling rough or misfiring? Are you getting a "check engine" light? If so, your timing belt/timing chain or tensioners might need some work. Especially with European import cars and trucks, these require meticulous attention as chains and belts can stretch and tensioners can wear out....and the consequences of putting off the necessary repairs can cost you an engine! Don't wait for the situation to worsen! Give us a call at (609) 380-7577 or get your vehicle into our shop on the White Horse Pike in Absecon, NJ as soon as you can, and let our "A-Team" of experienced ASE-certified technicians see what they can do.

TGIF, European import car or truck owners, drivers, and enthusiasts of South Jersey!

If you get one of these lights, PULL OVER AND SHUT DOWN YOUR CAR!! DON'T continue driving it! Pop the hood, and allow your engine to cool....and get a tow. Engine overheating isn't something you want to mess with as it "cooks" your engine. How bad, you ask? Enough to warrant an engine replacement. If you're in trouble with one of these, give us a call at (609) 380-7577 or get a tow to our shop on the White Horse Pike in Absecon, NJ. Let our "A-Team" of experienced, seasoned, and ASE-certified technicians see what they can do.
