Today, Jamie and Brian Johnson got to sit down with longtime Aiken, South Carolina musician and retired banker Ben Newman for a heartfelt conversation about a lifetime of music, friendship, faith, and overcoming life’s greatest challenges.
With nearly 50 years in local music, Ben takes us through his journey performing with bands like the Revelators, and Bennie and the Jetsons, all while balancing a successful 40-year career in banking. He also shares memories of his longtime friendship with Brian Johnson, built over four decades of shared passions for cars, music, and business.
Ben opens up about his courageous battle with cancer, including three years of chemotherapy, the importance of faith and community support, and the journey that brought him to two years in remission. He reflects on the love and encouragement of his wife Brenda, friends, and the Aiken community that stood beside him.
The conversation also highlights Ben’s special musical connection with rising young talent Presley Jane, whose natural ear for harmony and ability to bring generations of musicians together remind us why music is so powerful. From memories of Teen Town and Ben’s first car, a 1964 Nova, to the songs and stories that stay with us, this episode celebrates the people, places, and experiences that make music timeless.
Join us for an inspiring episode filled with Aiken history, local music, lifelong friendships, and a reminder that the best stories are often the ones shared through music.
❤️ Tune in and celebrate the stories behind the music!
