⚓ Tech Talks with Dylan: The Fundamentals of Boat Stability ⚓

What makes a boat feel safe, comfortable, and predictable at sea? The answer lies in stability.
In this latest Tech Talk, Selene Yachts Americas Technical Director Dylan Hildebrand breaks down the fundamentals of boat stability using a simple demonstration model he designed and built himself. By simulating a boat's motion in waves with different centers of gravity, Dylan explains the delicate balance every yacht designer must achieve between comfort and safety.

One of the most common misconceptions Dylan encounters at boat shows is that the lowest possible center of gravity always creates the best boat. In reality, excessive stability can lead to uncomfortable motion, while designing solely for a softer, slower roll can compromise both vessel and passenger safety.

Drawing on the design philosophy behind every Selene trawler, Dylan explains how he and founder/naval architect Howard Chen strive to achieve the ideal balance between seaworthiness, comfort, and safety.

🚢 Delivery of Selene 60 #6050 in Seattle, Washington!

Chris and Elisabeth are over the moon 🌙 as they take delivery of their brand-new Selene Classic Explorer 60! Fresh off the cargo vessel and on her way to final commissioning. Affectionately named Full Circle, she is one step closer to beginning her cruising adventures.

Everyone at Selene Yachts Americas is excited for Chris and Elisabeth as they start this new chapter aboard their beautiful new yacht!!
