🏁 On This Day In Motorsports – June 16, 1943 🏁

Born on this day, John Bloor became the man who brought Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. back to life.

After purchasing Triumph in 1983, Bloor invested in a completely new generation of motorcycles, rebuilding the brand into a modern global icon. The first new Hinckley-built Triumphs arrived in 1991, marking one of the greatest comebacks in motorcycle history. 🏍️

🏁 On This Day In Motorsports History 🏁

Happy birthday to Carl Kiekhaefer, born on this day in 1906. As the founder of Mercury Marine, Kiekhaefer transformed a small outboard motor company into one of the most influential names in the marine industry, helping shape modern recreational boating and marine racing.

His influence extended beyond the water. In the mid-1950s, Kiekhaefer entered NASCAR with a factory-backed Chrysler team that revolutionized the sport through professional engineering, dedicated transporters, team uniforms, and data-driven preparation.

🏁 On This Day In Motorsports History 🏁

May 28, 1907 — The very first Isle of Man TT motorcycle race was held on the Isle of Man, marking the beginning of one of the most legendary and dangerous races in motorsports history.

The event challenged riders on public roads through villages, tight corners, and mountain passes — a tradition that continues more than a century later. The inaugural race was won by Charlie Collier at an average speed of just over 38 mph.

From its humble beginnings to today’s 200+ mph superbikes, the Isle of Man TT remains one of the ultimate tests of speed, skill, and bravery.

Friendly reminder from DS Powersports:

As has always been our policy, we recommend giving us at least 10 days’ notice for spring start-ups if your boat is stored with us and you’d like it ready for pickup. This is also noted on your invoice from last fall.

Earlier in the season, we can often accommodate shorter lead times depending on our schedule. However, with Memorial Day Weekend approaching, we are currently slammed and cannot guarantee completion dates on start-ups requested less than 1 week in advance.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through the busy season and get everyone safely back on the water!

Chase Sexton won the race and the championship on May 13th, 2023 in Salt Lake City, clinching his first 450 class AMA Supercross championship and delivering Honda its first premier-class Supercross championship in two decades.

🏁🏁 On This Day in Powersports 🏁🏁

May 6, 2006 — At the final round of the AMA Supercross season in Las Vegas, Chad Reed made history by winning aboard a Yamaha YZ250 two-stroke — the last AMA Supercross main event victory ever recorded by a 2-stroke machine in the premier class.

As four-strokes were rapidly taking over the sport, Reed’s win became the end of an era for 250cc smokers that defined Supercross up to that point.

🏁 On This Day In Motorsports 🏁

Today we celebrate two-time AMA Motocross 450cc and two-time World Supercross champion Ken Roczen. Born April 29th, 1994 in Mattstedt Germany, Ken was the youngest ever German MX GP winner at age 15 in 2009. He backed that up by becoming the youngest ever MX2 world champion in 2011, and in 2014 he lined up for his first ever AMA Supercross 450 event and won that as well!
