Seeing just how impressive the TVS blowers are on other applications, we decided to do an alternative blower on my boy’s Lightning. This old Ford Racing 2.3L that was once offered for the GT500 crowd was used in place of what we typically do, a 2.3L Whipple.
These take a good bit of extra work if you have the means to do so, such as firewall mods( including keeping wipers), use of a manifold adapter, Roush elbow, TB change, and several small custom changes to wrap it all up.
Limited mostly by the stock PI head casting and 93 OCT, as with more engine speed, boost would rocket up to 20lb easily on the 4lb lower/2.93 upper. On E85 tune, 20lb wasn’t at all a concern. With only having a spare 6lb lower on hand, we swapped out and made 19lbs through midrange, 22lbs @ 6K, and was rewarded with 659/739Tq.
Despite taking more work to install, these are a reliable and powerful option if you can score one of these reasonably. •
