Most people mix 2-stroke fuel wrong. Here's the easy way.
I almost made a costly mistake... and most 2-stroke owners do this all the time.

The other day I stopped and filled up with 1.25 gallons of ethanol-free fuel, but I didn't have any AMSOIL SABER Professional 100:1 Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil with me.

The good news? One bottle treats 2.5 gallons perfectly, so for 1.25 gallons, all I needed was half the bottle.

A quick pour, a quick shake, and the fuel mix was ready to go.

Running the correct fuel-to-oil ratio helps reduce carbon buildup, keeps your engine cleaner, and can help extend engine life.

Sometimes it's the little maintenance habits that make the biggest difference.

I wasn't expecting THIS result...

My son wanted to make his wheels spin faster, so we decided to try a little experiment.

We grabbed some AMSOIL Metal Protector, sprayed both sides, and put it to the test.

The verdict?

"Didn't really help."
Sometimes the best maintenance lesson is learning what doesn't work. Not every product is the right solution for every problem, and that's okay. Back to the drawing board. Maybe silicone spray gets the next shot.

Have you ever tried a fix that completely flopped?

What do YOU think would work better? Drop your suggestion in the comments and let's see if we can get Garrett's wheels spinning again.

Why did I stop at this gas station? I’ll give you three guesses… and the first two don’t count.

If you guessed snacks, coffee, or a bathroom break… try again.

I stopped because I found ethanol-free fuel.

If you’ve got small engines, motorcycles, ATVs, generators, chainsaws, or lawn equipment, ethanol-free fuel can help reduce fuel system issues, improve storage life, and keep your equipment running stronger when it matters most.

Sometimes the best maintenance starts before you even turn the key.

This engine sat for 6 months... would it start on the first pull?
After sitting for half a year, this machine fired right up. The secret isn't luck.

I always use ethanol-free fuel and AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer before storing equipment. That combination helps keep fuel fresh, protects against gum and varnish buildup, and makes seasonal startups a whole lot easier.

A few seconds of preparation can save a lot of frustration when it's time to get back to work.

What's the longest you've let a piece of equipment sit before starting it up again?

I borrowed my neighbor’s rototiller… so I brought it back better than I got it. Would you have done the same?

My awesome neighbor let me borrow his rototiller, so I figured I’d return the favor the right way. Fresh oil change, topped off with ethanol-free fuel, added some AMSOIL Quickshot to help clean and stabilize the gas, and even gave it a wash before bringing it back.

Some people might say that’s “doing too much.” I call it respecting people’s equipment.

Would you have done the same thing, or just returned it as-is?

Internet mechanics said this transmission fluid change would be a disaster… so I proved them wrong with a laundry detergent jug.

Everyone told me I HAD to take off the skid plate or the fluid would spill everywhere. Nope. I grabbed an old detergent bottle, cut it into a little trough, and guided the fluid right into the drain pan. Cheap, simple, and way faster than tearing half the underside apart. Sometimes backyard engineering wins again.

Would you try this trick or do the keyboard mechanics still have the final word?

This tiny tiller just got a BIG upgrade. Most people ignore small engine oil… until the engine starts smoking, knocking, or quitting halfway through the season.

Oil change time on the Yardmax YT5328 with the CMXX 98cc engine. Drained out the old dirty oil and replaced it with 12 ounces of AMSOIL 100% synthetic high-zinc small engine oil. Clean oil matters way more than people think on these little engines. Heat, vibration, and long run times absolutely beat them up.

This setup helps protect against wear, keeps things running cleaner, and gives this tiller a much better shot at a long life instead of becoming “that thing behind the shed that won’t start.”

And yes… every last drop counts.

The Yardmax YT5328 takes 12 ounces of oil, and this one got upgraded with AMSOIL synthetic high-zinc small engine oil for serious protection. Quick warm-up, drain the old oil, refill, and get back to work.

Small engines work hard. Cheap oil usually works harder… at failing.

Your neighbor lets you borrow his equipment… do you return it like THIS?

My neighbor let me borrow his Yardmax rototiller, so I figured I’d return the favor the right way. Did the oil change, looked up the exact oil capacity for the CMXX engine, and even printed a label showing it takes 12 oz of oil so nobody has to guess later. Little details save engines.

Would you do this for someone’s equipment… or is this a little extra?

Comment below: thoughtful move or total overkill?

That annoying squeak didn’t stand a chance.

One quick spray. Let it soak. Problem solved. Sometimes the little maintenance fixes save the biggest headaches later. If your equipment sounds like a haunted house every time it moves, it might be time for a little lubrication therapy.

“The survey says… all gone.”
