HOUSE ON THE ROCK — THEN & NOW 🎞️ Started by Alex Jordan Jr. in the 1940s, local legend says the eccentric builder created the initial structure out of spite after a perceived slight by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright (whose estate, Taliesin, is nearby).

Jordan originally started charging 50 cents for curious visitors to look around in 1960 just to cover his building costs, but the crowds kept growing…

Despite building a massive 240-acre wonderland, Alex Jordan reportedly spent only four total nights of his life sleeping in the actual house.

4️⃣ more things you might not know ⤵️

✅ The famous Infinity Room stretches 218 feet out over the valley with no middle support, narrowing to a pointy tip that bounces up and down. It contains 3,264 individual glass window panes.

✅ The massive complex was built without any formal blueprints or architectural plans; Jordan built everything directly from ideas in his head, tearing down and re-building sections he didn't like.

✅ The indoor carousel is the largest in the world, weighing 36 tons and lit by 20,000 lights and 182 chandeliers, but it features NO actual horses—instead showcasing fantastic creatures, angels, and mythical beasts.

✅ The "Heritage of the Sea" room holds a colossal, toothy sea monster sculpture locked in battle with a giant octopus, roughly the physical volume of the Statue of Liberty.

We’re going to slow things down for a few days while Mike is out for another new knee. Beginning October 28th, it’ll just be Kyle and John. We ask for patience the next few days as we’re finishing some projects and scaling back on our schedule.
