Some pictures and descriptions of this diagnostic turned best case scenario today. Customer came in for a second opinion on ~$10g of repairs a local dealer quoted on her Chevy 1500 3.0L diesel. Said it needed a new upper timing cover and main radiator. Engine needs to come out for this repair so before booking it in I said can you give us a little time to confirm it actually needs it? We found no leaks or evidence of any previous at the upper or lower timing cover, nothing at the valve cover, nothing at the crank seal, there was dirty oil around the front of the block from a filler neck not correctly secured. We also dug hard to find this main radiator leak the dealer claimed was an issue and absolutely no evidence of any coolant leaks… people make mistakes but not this egregious!!! I’m thrilled we were able to treat this person fairly, provide a quality repair and give her some assurance that there are still good trustworthy shops locally available 😊
