AS IS - What you see is what you get. Vehicle is put on the lot for sale with no guarantee as to performance or condition

BACK OF BOOK - When a used vehicle is sold for less than the retail price established by one of the Use Car price Guides.

BAD PAPER - Uncollectible finance deal

BOX - Finance and Insurance closing office

BUY UP - Customer buys either a higher price make or model than the one they are currently driving

CARRY BACK - Amount to be financed on a retail installment contact.

Clock - The Odometer

CLOCKING - Procedure of turning the odemeter back to register lower mileage - AN ILLEGAL ACT!

DEMO - A demonstrator vehicle

F&I - Finance and Insurance Department

GOLD PLATED - Customer with an excellent credit history

GOOD DEAL - When both the buyer and salesperson are happy with the purchase

HAGGLING - Another way of describing the negotiation process on a vehicle

HANGING PAPER - The F&I Departments attempt to get the finance deal bought by a lender

IRON LOT - An independent Used Car Lot

LOOKER - A person who is not ready to buy as in "I'm just looking"

MARONY - The window price sticker: named after Congressman Monroney who initiated the legislation to have it posted on a car window

MULLET - Buyer who will buy anything you have to sell

NICKEL - Five Hundred Dollars

PAPER - Refers to any finance deal that the dealer is trying to sell to Lenders

POP CART - A repossessed vehicle returned to a dealer's inventory

RAGTOP - A convertible

RECON - Service work to put a used vehicle in a commercially saleable and acceptable condition

REPO - Vehicle that has been repossessed

ROLLBACK - Sales tactic of finding out how much a buyer wants to pay a month and then "rollback" the figures to find out how much car they can buy for that amount of a monthly payment

SKINS - Tires

SLED - An older car in bad shape

SOFT ADDS - Optional items that are not included on the window sticker: e.g., credit insurance, extended service agreements, etc.

TERM - Length of the finance contract: e.g., 36, 48 or 60 months

TRADE ALLOWANCE - Appraisal on a customer's trade-in, plus any discount off of list price

UPSIDE DOWN - Customer with negative equity in their trade

VIN -Vehicle Identification Number

Dealer Bond & Insurance Requirements:

1. A bond in the amount of $35,000 for used motor vehicle dealers and $10,000 for used motor vehicle parts dealers, as required by O.C.G.A. Section 43-47-8(h). Following the initial licensing period, the Bond shall then run concurrently with the licensing period. At no time should the licensee be without a bond during any licensing period;

2. A certificate of insurance as required as by O.C.G.A. Section 43-47-8(k), including policy number, policy limits, expiration date, name and address of insured exactly as they appear on the application, and certificate holder listed as "State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers and Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers, 237 Coliseum Drive, Macon, Georgia 31217", which identifies the appropriate division. Garage Liability Insurance must be indicated for the appropriate policy limits for used motor vehicle dealers and used parts dealers who offer rebuilt vehicles for sale.
