Distracted drivers on Halloween night!

This Saturday, neighborhoods across Baton Rouge will be filled with ghosts, goblins, superheroes, princesses and lots of excited children.

And excited children don't always make predictable decisions.

🚗 A child may run between parked cars.
👻 A costume may make it difficult to see.
🍬 Someone may drop their candy and run back into the street.
🌙 Darkness can make pedestrians harder to recognize.

So here's your Koala Halloween assignment:

🐨 SLOW DOWN.
👀 LOOK TWICE.
📱 PUT THE PHONE AWAY.
🚗 EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.

Because the only thing we want haunting you this Halloween is the memory of how much candy you ate. 😂🍫

Take note!

Louisiana OMV to Close Tuesday, September 15, for System Modernization

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) will close all customer service centers on Tuesday, September 15, to complete the transition from its antiquated mainframe to its new modernized system.

The conversion to Drive360 represents an unprecedented change for the OMV and a significant transformation in serving Louisiana residents. While the agency recognizes the impact of extending the closure, it greatly appreciates the public’s patience as the agency completes this important modernization effort.

Offices are scheduled to reopen and resume normal operations once additional validation and readiness reviews are completed. Updates will be provided as they become available, and residents are encouraged to check www.expresslane.la.gov.

Note this if you have business like getting TIP cards, permits, drivers licenses.

All OMV customer service centers will be CLOSED on Monday, September 14, 2026, for system modernization efforts and staff training.

All private companies contracted to do business with the OMV (Public Tag Agents and Auto Title Companies) will be unable to perform driver's license, reinstatement, vehicle registration, and title transactions from Saturday, September 12, 2026, through Monday, September 14, 2026.

Additionally, OMV's website, Expresslane.la.gov, and LA Wallet will experience intermittent outages from Saturday, September 12, 2026, through Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Free Child Safety Seat Inspections are available at LSP Troops and fitting stations across the state to help parents and caregivers ensure car seats and booster seats for children are properly installed and used correctly.

Additionally, CarFit is a free educational program that helps older drivers ensure their vehicle is properly adjusted for the safest and most comfortable fit, including proper positioning and visibility.

So no…drivers of a vehicle do not need a booster seat, but making sure everyone in your vehicle has the right fit and is properly secured is always a safe idea.

Heads up, drivers!
The westbound side of the US 190 Old Mississippi River Bridge will be closed starting Friday, August 28 at 7pm through Tuesday, September 1 at 12pm.

⚠️ Note: The I-110 SB ramp from LA 408 (Harding Blvd) to US 190 WB will also be closed during this period.
