While we truly try to treat every boat in the same regard, focusing on the details… The stakes are simply a bit higher on a several million dollar sporty that’s undergone a major refit. Cockpit boxes were removed, and the fiberglass guys fabricated these new doors to cover the shore power/water/etc, but we needed latches. Some heavy duty, fully encapsulated magnets, a few minutes in lightburn, and a few minutes on the heat strip… we have some magnetic latches. Cut and bent up the clear ones just as a test, and realized we needed some adjustment to keep the doors off the outer wall, so slotted the mounting holes for the final.

The best, but also the worst part of working on boats is solving problems, quite literally no two boats are the same. This Garlington has been a huge project for all involved, so many custom parts and little details, but we are down to the wire now and she should be splashing soon!

If you’ve ever worked with us, you know we’re a small team that’s dedicated to putting out top quality work. We don’t take shortcuts or rush jobs to simply move onto the next! So, whether we’re dialing in a new install, fabricating custom parts in the shop, or performing boat yoga inside a tight bilge… We’re often away from the phone!

Our goal is and always has been, to provide top-quality work, and customer service, at fair prices. In an effort to reduce games of phone tag, buried text messages, or notes written on the back of a cardboard box while we’re inside of a console, we have been working behind the scenes on a customer portal, which includes a Service Request Form.

We encourage you to visit our website, www.moreheadmarine.com/serviceportal to submit new job requests, get info on our VIP program, or simply keep tabs on the projects we’re working on. Bookmark it, as there is more to come soon!

Despite the weather, we hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend!

Social media is often referred to as a highlight reel, and for good reason; rarely the bad stuff is posted. While that can be true for us at times, if you’ve followed along, we will often post our mistakes as well, and have no problem doing so because that’s how we learn and improve. Scrolling here, youll see a lot of pretty dash panels, new electronics installs, switch panels, etc, but rarely do they show the backside!

This Garlington has been a huge project. What started as a derig/rerig for paint, then a helm layout update (but using the existing Garmin displays/wiring), to a full Furuno electronics package which includes 3 displays, 2 ducers, 3 sonar modules, 2 satcoms, radar, autopilot, etc… along with a rework of power distribution to ensure breakers are sized properly, a rework of the bridge battery backup, so it can power both 12v and 24v electronics, and multiple custom panels.

On the surface, she’s going to look incredible, but the parts we are most excited about are behind the scenes… The full system was extensively planned, circuits sized properly, labels that make sense, and our lead tech Andrew is absolutely killing the helm wiring and finished up the bridge distribution this week (and some before photos, for good measure).

Have some super cool stuff going in this build, lot of custom parts, and getting excited seeing the finish line ahead! We are obviously biased, but work like this is worth waiting for, and can’t wait for the owner to step on the boat for the first time after she’s all put back together - That’s the best part of the process!

Solving problems is the name of our game. When you hire Morehead Marine, you don’t just get a parts swapper, you get a team dedicated to overthinking every problem to ultimately provide you the best solution… When we redid the dash last year, the throttle just barely touched the VHF mic cable when full forward… Brought it back to us a few weeks ago to have it serviced, new throttle and shift cables, and decided to swap to the new binnacle as well. We drew up and cut a wedge just to give it a bit more clearance between the binnacle and VHF. Haven’t fully installed yet, but should be any further issues now!

Need a throttle wedge or other custom parts? We can help! (252) 528-1919

Not every boat needs an extensive rewire to make it function and feel “like new” again. Got this Tidewater skiff finished up, owner was starting to have some issues with stuff intermittently not working, corroded connections behind the switch panel and the negative bus, and wiring in the console was a bit of a rats nest.

His idea was a new generic switch panel, bail mount the new Garmin on top of console, and just do a general clean up or connections… After looking it over and discussing options, he opted for a custom dash panel, flush mounted Garmin and integrated switches right into the panel. New fuse block in the console, new terminals throughout, added a battery switch, and a few lugs. Since we fabricate these parts in-house, the customer likely got a better product, for less.

Behind the scenes, we are constantly trying to improve our work, as well as the customer experience. Have been swamped this year, trying to get winter projects finished up and new projects going. Scheduling jobs is by far the hardest part about this business; projects snowball, boats get hauled out unexpectedly, parts don fit as expected, wire chases are full, etc… We are working on automating some of our job entry and tracking process, keeping better tabs on our actual backlog, and hoping to bring on additional help soon! The ultimate goal right now is to improve job updates and communication, that’s been the major struggle for the past year.

If you’d like to get on the schedule, the quickest way is to email your contact info, as well as any details of the boat and the job request to [email protected] - Long hours on the boats this time of year makes getting back via phone call challenging, and email helps us better track things!

We are far from the best at anything, but you can be certain that everything on your project was overthought, and even the smallest of details like bolt lengths or direction of zip ties, has been considered. We try incredibly hard to build systems that are robust and easy to use, but also look nice.

Just finished polishing this custom bracket for a raw water washdown hose. On almost every center console ever, you’ll see a laying on the deck, sometimes on a hook, or in the splash well. We are moving the inlet inside the transom storage box so the hose stays hidden when not in use. A bracket that most will never see, and really doesn’t matter much at the end of the day, but it’s one minor detail among many that brings the entire project together.

Starting to make it through winter projects, still a few weeks out on new work, but if you want to get on the list for new projects, now’s the time! Shoot us an email with your project details and we’ll be in touch!

We’re also actively trying to recruit the best techs in Carteret County to allow us to take on more work, and also finish projects more quickly. If you know someone that may be interested, send them our way!
