If you’re a diy’er, shop or getting your oil changed on a 6.0/6.4 powerstroke, DO NOT use taller aftermarket caps with the original length OE filter!(aftermarket numbers wix 57312 or Napa 7312) or you will cost yourself some serious engine repairs down the road. These filters are designed from the factory to close the drain valve in the filter housing to prevent pressurized oil from draining back to the pan. The aftermarket filters listed have a taller cap with a longer element, whereas the OE style uses a shorter cap with a shorter filter element. If you use a tall cap with a short filter, guess what happens? Pressurized oil drains back to pan because the filter is too short and doesnt close the valve!! This has been a problem seen in the past multiple times and has caused severe damage to cylinder walls and valvetrain components due to lack of lubrication. Please, save yourself thousands in repairs by getting the right filters, preferably OE filter and cap. This 6.0 originally came in for head gasket failure, but now that we know the oil filter was incorrect, the customer may be into some more in depth repairs than expected..
