In the 1970’s John “Jack” Allen made the decision to begin his own business. After serving in the United States military for two years and working construction for companies out of Syracuse and Watertown, New York for approximately ten years, Jack opened his garbage business. He developed garbage routes in the villages of Sandy Creek, Mannsville, Adams and Adams Center, New York. Throughout the ye
ars Jack’s business continued to diversify and expand. In the early 1980’s, Jack’s son Mike joined the business upon his graduation from high school. The business continued to grow and they implemented excavation and septic services into their operations. From the 1980’s through the end of the 1990’s, John Allen Sanitation added a little more each year to offer to residents of Jefferson County. From commercial and residential rubbish removal, excavation, septic service, snow removal, and trucking, Jack and Mike seemed to quickly become “Jacks of all trades!” Jack and Mike continued to assess the needs of the community and were committed to providing residents with new innovative services. The last twenty years has seen the implementation of roll off trucking and container service. Their trucking component continued to grow during that time as well, trucking fiber bedding to serve the agricultural community and recyclables and metal for area scrap yards and recycling centers. In November of 2010, Jack unfortunately passed away. Jack’s passion and love for his family, particularly his grandchildren, left a lasting impact on all of us and continues to live on today. Today, John Allen Sanitation is currently owned and operated by Mike Allen and has involvement from Jack’s daughter Susan and his grandchildren Nik and J.W. What all started with one garbage truck and one route, has now grown to many trucks and tens of employees. Nearly forty years later, John Allen Sanitation Service Incorporated remains a local family owned and operated business that places their customers first. They have been in business for over thirty-five years and plan on continuing their services for future years to come.
