🚨Heads up Friends! – Vehicle tabs/registration text SCAMS are going around right now. We have had several calls regarding suspicious texts and emails over the last couple of weeks.🚨

If you get a text saying your vehicle registration or tabs are expired, you owe money for tickets/tolls, or your license will be suspended unless you click and pay NOW…
DELETE IT immediately.
How to Know it's a SCAM:
➡️ Washington has the Department of Licensing (DOL) not “DMV”
➡️ The Real DOL never sends unsolicited texts demanding payment or threatening immediate suspension.
➡️ They DO NOT text you a link for you to click and pay.
What to do instead:
1. DELETE the text & mark it as spam/junk.
2. NEVER click any link or reply.
3. If you are unsure about your registration expiration date, check your registration or go directly to dol.wa.gov (Type it yourself – don’t use any link from a text.)
Real issues with tabs or registration always come in the mail, not urgent scary texts. đź‘»
Share this with friends & family to spread the word. Stay safe out there!
Below are examples of scam tests I personally received in the last 10 days.

If you are a classic or collector vehicle owner like my husband and I, you probably received a letter (or 10, like us!)from the DOL last month regarding updates in requirements to have a Collector or Horseless Carriage plate on your vehicle.
But what exactly does it mean?
Basically, you are required to have another vehicle, that does not have a collector plate on it, and has current registration status. We can (and will) look this up to verify when you come in.
Secondarily, you must hold an insurance policy on your collector vehicle. You will need to bring proof of either liability or collector car insurance with you to apply for the collector plate.
That takes care of the DOL requirements. After that, just ensure those two requirements are in place before driving your collector vehicle on the road from that point on.
This new law goes into effect January 15th, 2026. If you meet the requirements already, you are good to go! If not, take action to do so immediately. If you no longer wish to have your vehicle registered as a collector, you can bring your collector plate in to our office and make the switch back to standard registration.
Looking forward to seeing all your beautiful classics on the road!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Charles “Chuck” Allen Hamstreet, beloved father, friend, community member, and longtime owner of Northwest Licensing.

Chuck passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, after a short and courageous bout with aggressive cancer, surrounded by his daughters and his best friend. Born and raised in Bellingham, Chuck spent his life deeply connected to the community he loved.

Beyond his work at Northwest Licensing, Chuck was the founder of Lean on Me Service Dogs and a lifelong musician who shared his talent and joy through music with bands including The Wicked Yahoos, Sneakers, Magic Touch, and Sundance. He was also known for his deep love of animals, especially his Golden Retrievers and Great Danes.

Chuck is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Teigrob (Paul) and Stephanie Stremler (Brandon), and his grandchildren Gabrielle, Angel, Paisley, and Weston.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Ferndale Community Pavilion. In true Chuck fashion, casual attire is encouraged.

We know many in the community cared deeply for Chuck, worked with him, made music with him, or shared stories and friendship over the years. If you knew Chuck, we invite you to join us in honoring his life and legacy.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the family during this time.

Well folks, I figured it was time to share some news. Northwest Licensing has been my pride and joy for a long stretch now. I’ve met a lot of great people, solved a lot of headaches, and probably created a few too—but it’s been one heck of a ride.

Now, it’s time for this old guy to hand over the keys. I’m happy (and pretty darn proud) to say that my daughter, Jennifer Teigrob, will be taking the reins and leading Northwest Licensing into its next chapter. She’s smart, steady, and she actually knows how to use all the buttons on these computers—so I’d say the place is in good hands.

Please give her the same support you’ve given me all these years.

Here’s to the next generation keeping the wheels turning.

~Chuck
