OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Today, I am honored and humbled to announce that I have officially qualified to run for Alabama State Representative, District 57.
I am Mara Ruffin Blackmon — a lifelong servant of the people, a business owner, a community builder, and a woman who believes that leadership should show up, stand up, and deliver.
I was born with a heart for service and raised with an understanding that progress doesn’t come from promises — it comes from hard work, accountability, and action. For years, I have worked on the front lines of our community:

✔️ Investing in education
✔️ Feeding the hungry
✔️ Housing the homeless
✔️ Advocating for seniors
✔️ Uplifting small businesses
Not because it was political — but because it was necessary.
As a successful business owner, nonprofit founder, community development leader, and Vice Finance Chair of the Jefferson County Democratic Party, I understand both the struggles families face and the responsibility of managing resources wisely. I’ve balanced budgets, built institutions, and led with integrity — and I’m ready to take that same discipline and heart to Montgomery .
District 57 deserves a Representative who:
• Knows the community
• Lives the community
• Works for the community
This campaign is about people over politics.
It’s about opportunity over excuses.
It’s about representation that reflects our values, our work ethic, and our vision for the future.
I am running because our voices matter, our families matter, and our future matters.
Let’s build stronger neighborhoods, safer communities, better schools, and an Alabama that works for all of us — not just a few.
