🤦‍♂️ The "Glue & Hope" Method vs. Real Diagnostics 🛠️

A new customer brought in a Chevy Trailblazer with a rough-running engine and a cylinder #5 misfire. The culprit? Someone had previously snapped off the ignition coil mounting bolt and tried to "fix" it with... superglue. 🤦‍♂️

Because this is an inline-6 engine, the broken bolt was recessed deep in the cylinder head, right under the tight overhang of the windshield body. To drill it out the traditional way would have required a ton of labor and teardown.

The customer wanted a more practical option, so we got creative!

Instead of an expensive teardown, we fabricated a custom bracket that bridges across the two adjacent ignition coils to anchor the loose one down, using a bolt and jam nut to apply the perfect amount of downward pressure.

The result? The misfire is completely gone, the engine runs beautifully, and the customer saved a massive chunk of change.

“ A new Customer dropped off his Chevy Trailblazer for a poor running condition.

It had an Engine #5 cylinder misfire.

What we found was the ignition coil wasn’t bolted into place because someone previously had snap off the mounting bolt. So they tried to fasten it into place glue. 😳

The engine is a straight six cylinder. And there isn’t any room to get a drill into there to drill out the broken bolt because of the overhang of the body below the windshield .
You can see in the picture it recesses pretty far down into the cylinder head.  It would have taken quite a bit of labor time to access it and repair it.

The customer didn’t want to go that depth into the repair.
So I gave him an other option . 
I made a bracket and used the mounting bolts from the other two ignition coils next to it to fasten it into place, and I have a bolt and jam nut in the center of the bracket, that screws down against the coil to help hold it into place

The misfire is now gone, and the vehicle runs great

💡 "My headlights act up every once in a while..."

It's Pennsylvania. We use salt. This is a common complaint.

This AFS (Adaptive Front Lighting) module looked almost perfect from the outside. The only clue? One tiny green spot of corrosion inside the connector.

Once we opened it up... the damage told a very different story.

❄️ Winter road salt in PA doesn't just rust frames, brake lines and exhausts, it creeps into electrical connectors, modules, sensors, and wiring. By the time your headlights, warning lights, or electronics start acting up, corrosion may already be spreading.

Don't ignore intermittent electrical problems. They rarely fix themselves, and they usually get more expensive.

"It's NOT like your grandfather's car anymore!" 😄

When I started working on cars back in the 1970s, I could replace two engines in a single day.

Those days are long gone.

Today's vehicles are far more complex. An engine replacement like this 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee typically takes 20+ hours, more than two full days of labor.

Our technician, Austen, is installing a rebuilt engine in this Jeep, and just looking at these photos gives you an idea of everything involved. It's a lot more than simply pulling one engine out and dropping another one in!
