Great reminder to always put safety first

Today marks another year of remembering Kali, a beautiful life, a bright spirit, and a story that continues to create change.
On July 20, 2012, Kali was on a fishing trip near Port Aransas with family friends. During a gradual turn, the boat unexpectedly spun 180 degrees. Kali was thrown from the boat and tragically struck by the outboard engine’s propeller.
The operator was not using an engine cut-off switch, and it was later discovered that the boat’s hull had a defective design. Despite every effort to get her back to shore, Kali passed away surrounded by the friends who stayed with her until the very end.
Out of unimaginable loss came a mission to save lives.
Through the determination of Kali’s family, Texas Parks and Wildlife, legislators, and state leaders, Kali’s Law was passed in Texas, requiring operators of powerboats under 26 feet to use an engine cut-off switch while the boat is underway or on plane. That life-saving requirement has since become federal law, helping protect boaters across the country.
Kali’s story reminds us that every life has a story. Protect yours.
