A quick reminder about tire pressure

When you’re using one of those gas-station air pumps, it’s easy to add a little too much air. Proper tire pressure helps with handling, traction, ride quality and even tire wear.

A few simple tips:
- Check tire pressures when the tires are cold.
- Use the recommended pressure listed on the driver’s door-jamb sticker or in the owner’s manual — not the maximum pressure printed on the tire itself.
- Don’t bleed air out of a hot tire just because the pressure reads higher. Tire pressure naturally rises as the tires warm up.
- While you’re checking pressure, take a quick look for nails, cuts, bulges or other damage.
And if you’re ever unsure, stop by Migz Auto Repair. We’re always happy to help our customers check and set their tire pressures correctly.

Is your car becoming a winter home for unwanted guests?
When a vehicle sits for long periods of time — especially outside — mice, squirrels and other small animals can sometimes make their way under the hood. Unfortunately, they don’t always just make a nest. Rodents may chew on wiring, insulation, hoses and other components, which can lead to some surprisingly expensive repairs.
A few ways to help discourage critters:
- Drive the vehicle regularly when possible. Cars that sit untouched for long periods can be more inviting.
- Keep leaves, birdseed, pet food and other food sources away from where the vehicle is parked.
- Keep the area around the car clean and avoid piles of leaves, brush or clutter nearby.
- Take an occasional look under the hood, especially if the car hasn’t been driven recently.
- Watch for signs like nesting material, droppings, chewed insulation or a strange smell.
- If your vehicle suddenly develops warning lights or electrical problems after sitting, animal damage is one possibility worth checking.
One more thing: be careful before starting a vehicle that has been sitting for a while. An animal may have made itself comfortable somewhere you can’t immediately see.
We see some pretty unusual things under the hood from time to time. A quick inspection now can be a lot easier — and cheaper — than repairing chewed wiring later.

October is Car Care Month!
Luna wanted to remind everyone that now is a good time to give your car a little extra attention before the colder weather gets here.
Check your tires, battery, brakes, lights and wipers, and don't forget about any maintenance you've been putting off. A little preventative maintenance can go a long way toward avoiding bigger repairs later.
And if you're not sure what your car is due for, just ask us. We can look over your vehicle's history and help you figure out what actually needs to be done and what can wait. Don't forget to sign up for our email list, which only sends out one email per month, to get special coupons to save on your next service! You can find our sign up form on our website under "Contact Us"
