Not all replacement parts are the same.

When repairing a vehicle, there are typically three types of parts that may be used: OEM, aftermarket, and LKQ (recycled original parts).

🚘 OEM parts are made by the vehicle manufacturer and are designed specifically for your vehicle.

🚘 Aftermarket parts are made by third-party companies and can vary in fit, finish, and quality.

🚘 LKQ parts are recycled OEM parts removed from another vehicle.

Insurance companies often prefer aftermarket or recycled parts because they cost less. In some cases, those parts work fine. In other cases, they may not fit properly or meet the same standards as OEM components.

At Martin’s Body Shop, our responsibility is to advocate for repairs that restore the vehicle properly and safely, not simply choose the cheapest option available.

Most people only see the damage.

What they don't see is everything that happens beneath the surface.

Modern vehicles are built with advanced safety systems, sensors, and structural components that all need to work together after a collision.

That's why collision repair involves much more than replacing parts and applying paint.

From researching repair procedures to inspecting hidden damage, precision matters every step of the way.

Because the details you don't see are often the ones that matter most.

Why does one estimate look different from another?

It’s one of the most common questions we hear.

The short answer: an initial insurance estimate is not always the same thing as a complete repair plan.

Once disassembly begins, additional damage is often found behind panels and beneath the surface. Repair procedures, calibrations, safety systems, and part fitment all have to be considered before the vehicle can be repaired properly.

That’s why estimates can change throughout the repair process.

At Martin’s Body Shop, our focus is not just getting the vehicle repaired quickly. Our focus is making sure it’s repaired correctly and safely.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be breaking down common questions about collision repair, insurance estimates, parts, and what proper repair really means.

06/08/2026

One of the first things we do after a vehicle arrives is begin the disassembly process.

Removing damaged parts allows our team to inspect what's underneath and identify damage that couldn't be seen during the initial estimate.

That's why repair plans sometimes change after a vehicle enters the shop.

The more we can see, the more accurately we can plan for the repairs ahead.

After an accident, confusion is everywhere. Clear answers usually aren’t.

Many people don’t realize they have a choice when it comes to repairing their vehicle.

You have the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired. You have the right to ask questions. And you have the right to expect repairs done with care, integrity, and attention to safety.

At Martin’s Body Shop, we believe customers deserve honest guidance throughout the repair process.

Our goal is to help people understand their options, feel confident in the repair process, and know their vehicle is being repaired the right way.

At Martin’s Body Shop, our goal is simple:
Providing clarity after the chaos.
