With a “final solution” in mind, let us start at the beginning of the subject of “tires for FJ60 model Land Cruisers” as we often forget how these rigs were delivered from Toyota to the dealership floors and what tires they came equipped with from the Toyota factory. What size, what brand? But, we know that all you really want to know is, what size tire should you run on your 60 Series Land Cruiser. That is a sliding scale of variable answers and we will cross those topics down below. For now, let’s start at the beginning in order to draw perspective.

The Perfect Wheel and Tire Package for FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser - Technical Functionality With Aesthetic Achievements. There are “technical” reasons for each and every “visual” decision we make. We choose the skinny tire “look” for the technical benefits of a “light-hand” steering feel. These rigs do not have power steering, so if you want easy manual steering input, the skinny tire “look” is technically the way to go. “Fat tires” kill your scrub radius and will “hunt” every groove in the road! Wider tires will also wear out steering ball joints more quickly. https://redlinelandcruisers.com/the-perfect-wheel-tire-suspension-package-fj40/

Project: SNOWFLAKE FJ60 is getting left behind… There’s trailer space for me! I like tacos too! • The Red Line Land Cruisers RLLC80 with its recent LS-swap is going to be hard-pressed to stay stay out of the skinny pedal while trailing along with the PK40 and the rest of the Slow Baja crew. But we’ve installed office space monitoring devices with automatic Floc-cam control shut down switches… 😎🏁😲 But the real question is, when is project: SNOWFLAKE, the 1983 FJ60 going to make it outside of the Colorado Springs campus!? And where should we go with it!?

Project SNOWFLAKE FJ60 is getting left behind on this one as the and are getting Summit Auto Transport’ed to SoCal in preparation to make a fantastic voyage with Slow Baja deep into the Baja peninsula! ••••••
Here is a quick look at the legendary Toyota Land Cruisers built and prepped by us here at Red Line Land Cruisers for this edition of the Slow Baja Vintage Expedition:
• The : A classic, rugged Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Series, built to dominate technical dirt paths and vintage-style trail runs.
• : Justin Robbins’ built 1996 80-Series Toyota Land Cruiser from Red Line Land Cruisers. With a recent 6.2 LS-swap, this family-adventure dual-sport machine runs massive 37-inch tires and custom suspension modifications, perfect for smooth cruising over silt beds and rocky Baja trails.
• Slow Baja: Founded by Michael Emery, Slow Baja Adventures hosts leisurely, community-focused off-road treks across the Baja peninsula. Their philosophy skips the fast racing to embrace “tacos, tequila, and tranquilo.”
• Project SNOWFLAKE FJ60: Your trusted 60-Series variant station wagon that is sitting this specific trip out.
While Project SNOWFLAKE stays behind, the 40 and 80 are going to make an unforgettable pair rolling through the ranches and beaches of Baja Norte.

Sorry Wavian USA not finished quite yet, but don’t worry, fuel is not going into the “snaggletooth” jerry can. But some Tequila Fortaleza might be dispensed from here because Slow Baja 😎🎉🏁 BUT why are the shocks lying on the ground?

Yes, we can get a little “batty” around the shop with our testing. Matchbox world Diecast FJ40 testing the speed ramp slope-style of these 40 Series half-doors for the PK40, in preparation for the fall edition of Slow Baja 🏜️ “ask your doctor is Baja right for you.” - yes, we take Land Cruisers very seriously!

FJ40 FACTORY WHEELS - FIVE WHEELS IN STOCK! https://redlinelandcruisers.com/product/fj40-steel-wheel-42601-60072-toyota-land-cruiser-our-favorite/ • SIMPLY – OUR FAVORITE WHEEL for the 40-Series Toyota Land Cruisers! Toyota Wheel, Disc 42601-60072 – Fits 1973-1984 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser - These 15″ wheels with their 5.5″ inside-the-lip “tire-width” is the “magic number” that gives our 33″ X 10.50/R15 tire choice the classic Toyota Land Cruiser “skinny tire” look! But what is even better than looks is functionality, and this wheel/tire combo provides the best possible “package” with the least load on your steering components at a suitable 33″ off-road capable tire height!

These factory Toyota FJ40 wheels provide a better scrub radius ratio than wider wheels! With the tire size increasing 5″ over the original size (28″!), why add even more stress to your Land Cruiser steering components with wider wheels and tires?

Call us FJ fashionistas if you want, but the two photos illustrate the visual cues of the right and wrong of wheel spacing on FJ40 Land Cruisers. We are looking at it from a pure functional standpoint! In the photo comparison, it’s a dead giveaway that the driveshaft is being compressed when the wheel is too tight to the body. Over the years, we’ve installed various FJ40 lift kits and eliminated those that didn’t work for us. We have fine-tuned our “perfect combination” and have been running the same setup for years! AND RECENTLY, we've introduced our own suspension package designed specifically for the FJ40! https://redlinelandcruisers.com/suspension-lift-without-axle-suck-fj40-toyota-land-cruiser/
