All loyal daughters (and smart men) value the spirit of female empowerment demonstrated by Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. It was on this day in 1848 that the American women’s suffrage movement was officially launched with the opening of the Seneca Falls Convention.
Although MUW’s founding mothers Sallie Eola Reneau, Annie Coleman Peyton and Olivia Valentine Hastings distanced themselves from Northern suffragettes to successfully convince an all-male Mississippi legislature to fund a women’s college, it is the collective voting power of the Long Blue Line that’s secured its survival.
Convention was held on July 19–20, 1848, at Seneca Falls, New York, that launched the woman suffrage movement in the United States.
