June Automotive History Highlight: On June 4, 1896, Henry Ford successfully test-drove his first vehicle — the “Quadricycle” — a simple four-wheeled, gasoline-powered contraption he built in a shed behind his home in Detroit.
It had no reverse gear, no brakes (initially), and looked more like a motorized buggy than a modern car, but that maiden voyage at 2 a.m. on a quiet Detroit street kicked off Ford’s legendary journey in the auto industry. Just seven years later, in June 1903, he founded the Ford Motor Company, which would go on to revolutionize how the world moves.
This is a perfect reminder that big things start with bold first steps (and sometimes a little tinkering in the garage late at night)! At Next Level Automotive, we love keeping that spirit alive — whether it’s diagnosing a classic, building performance upgrades, or keeping your daily driver running strong through New Hampshire summers.
